Several months ago, we ran an interview with Gabriel Ménard, founder of the new watch company Division Furtive, about the design and pending release of the brand’s first piece, the Type 46.  The Type 46 is a truly unique watch which tells time using a battery powered “dual linear movement”, features touch controls on the front sapphire crystal and sets time by syncing with your cell phone.  Well, this past Friday the 9th, Division Furtive officially launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the launch of the Type 46, while simultaneously announcing the Type 40 watch, a slightly more affordable version of the 46.  Check out the Kickstarter video below.

The Type 46 is a robust watch in more ways than one.  First of all, the case measures 50 mm in diameter and 16 mm tall. It also features a sapphire crystal, sterling silver with black nanoceramic coating, gold plated detailing on the dial and 3-axis accelerometer which powers the front lense touch sensor.  Oh, and what may be the coolest feature of the Type 46 is the way you set the time.  The watch is set by laying the case on a cell phone with an LCD screen while a program flashes lights in a particular pattern. A sensor on the watch back picks up the signal and programs the watch mechanism.  This makes programming the watch’s moon phases and date functions a snap.

Powered by AAA batteries, the watch will function for 365 days without needing a battery replacement, and comes with a 2 year warranty.  Assuming a successful Kickstart campaign, the Type 46 will be released at a retail price of approximately $3,600 with a limited production of 46.

As mentioned, the Type 40 is a very close cousin to the Type 46.  As stated on the Division Furtive Kickstarter page, the Type 40 is “Inspired by the Type 46 design but built for action and robustness. The Type 46′s metal casing is replaced by an equally-sized, epoxy-filled plastic structure. The mechanical cursors are replaced by bright amber LEDs. This makes for an incredibly durable watch with a nice feel (a hollow watch this size would feel too light).”  The Type 40, while more affordable and available than the Type 46, is limited to 1000 units with each being individually numbered.

As with any Kickstart campaign, backing the Division Furtive project gets you some cool rewards and potentially ownership of either a Type 46 or Type 40 watch.  For a full rundown of rewards and more information on the Division Furtive project, check out their Kickstarter page.
