I had never heard of MKII up until I met a guy a year ago who said he stopped being interested in other watches, now he always wore his MKII on a mesh and never deviated. He cancelled his accounts at WUS and other places, but he did convince me to start reading Worn and Wound, because that was one thing he still did. Thanks for a great blog and “hi to Micke”, since you probably read this, this might be my chance of selling my current collection without ever looking back.

  • http://URL Matt Andrews

A magnificent piece! In this day and age, I am much more drawn to the classic style diver watches than I am to the monstrous and overly adorned watches that seem to be prevalent in today’s fashion. Kudos to MKII in paying homage to one of the most classic timepieces of all time, while still retaining their own unique stamp and staying true to their product line.

  • Olaf

The name alone makes this watch desirable. Always wanted to go to Nassau!

  • http://URL RJ McDonald

Very classy W&W, and the watch is nice too!

Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your site. I think you guys write the highest quality reviews of any watch site, and it’s nice that you focus on good values (plenty of sites focus on very expensive watches). Your site led me to discover the Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT, which I received a few days ago and I am loving. How about you add a classic diver to my collection? :)

  • http://URL Brandon Rozelle

Thanks for the giveaway, guys! I love Worn & Wound–you guys do my favorite timepiece reviews, hitting all the right points plus beautiful photography.

I would love to own an MKII… my only diver watch is an Orient Mako (yellow dial, which I generally wear in the summer on a nato band) and I have nothing bad to say about it, but there is just something about the classic diver watch on a steel bracelet that speaks “dry martini and black tie” to me.

  • http://URL Jobin

Nice to see MKII making this watch their own by implementing such a high level of build and finishing quality, without all the overhead of the middlemen

Definitely a worthy homage watch. I have to admit, I wouldn’t have even thought of the difference between homage/replica/counterfeit without reading your other article a few days ago.

    Great review, great looking watch!

  • http://URL Tad

Kudos to Bill Yao (owner of MKII) for trying lots of new things here. The new business model took a lot of guts and Bill took a lot of flak from people due to uncertainty. In the end, he figured out a cool new business model and we have access to what some people argue is a homage (let’s not get into that today) but is really a masterful timepiece. If you haven’t had the chance to see one (or it’s Kingston LE cousin), beg borrow or steal some time with one.

MKII’s attention to detail would make the folks at Rolex cry. It’s like the Ferrari 365 that was over-restored far beyond the quality that the workers at Maranello ever imagined. It may lose points at Pebble Beach, but it is an absolute stunner.

If you don’t win this watch, buy one…

  • http://URL Chris

I have been a fan of Bill Yao’s work for a long time. It’s a shame I was never able to get a modded seiko diver from him before he started manufacturing his own independent pieces. Regardless I love the opportunity to own such a fine time piece. Bill Yao’s work is truly second to none, and something I hope to aspire to one day when I start my own watch company. Bill is truly an inspiration.

Worn and Wound, you always and continue to have wonderful watch reviews. You are my first stop for up and coming news in the watch world. I really appreciate all you guys do! Thanks for such a great review once again and keep up the good work!

Oh, how I’ve lusted after the MKII Nassau and Kingston! Yet I never seem to have the spare cash around when it’s time to put down a deposit… Great watches, and I can’t wait to own one at some point.

  • http://URL Alex S.

Omg omg, a diver watch contest exactly when I plan to buy a Seiko Monster. Must be my lucky day…. :)

  • http://URL Seth G

I watched the development and deliver of this watch and it’s predecessor, the Kingston. I’ve been amazed by how genuinely giddy the watch recipients have been. I had been hesitant about the “homage” watch category, but MKII does it exactly the way I would want and I have gone so far as to get myself on the list for one of their other, upcoming projects. Keep up the good work!

  • http://URL Jacob Fingerson

I have a MKII Kingston and have sold off all my other watches because it never leaves my wrist! Mr. Yao makes an amazing product, and I’m sure the Nassau lives up to and exceeds expectations.

  • http://URL Jim

Now if Aston Martin could make a homage to the DB5 as good as MKII did to the watch, well…..

  • Graham Duncan

Wow, what a fabulous opportunity, the MKII is absolutely spectacular.

I have never been much of a fan of sub homage watches, except of course for the Rolex Submariner, itโ€™s just a classic. But I read the review yesterday and something about this watch really spoke to me although it is out of my reach at the moment. Or so I thought!
Really, ever since I found Worn and Wound last year I have never been so poor. I am slowly acquiring the watches that you review and I g
roan every time there is on over my, at the moment, $500 limit.
These giveaways give me hope and I look forward to each one, I never would have dreamed that you would give away an MKII.

Please let it be to me.

A high quality wearable watch for the price of a leather strap for one of the “high end” brands

  • http://URL I would cherish this watch

Wow…. I thought I was straight out of luck and I was going to miss out on this watch. I had this on my wishlist when it was announced, and I was on their email list. Then when orders were being taken I was informed that I was losing my job so I couldn’t justify spending the money. My saving grace was that I was able to audition with another group at my company and luckily I got a gig with the new group that I love.

Unluckily for me, is that by the time I had the certainty of a secure job, new orders were stopped being taken. So I missed my opportunity to get this wonderful watch, which I was hoping to be my “promotion watch” before the job turmoil.

I’m hoping that I can win it, especially since the day after the entry period ends is my birthday. This would make me extremely happy. (Cheesy moment here) Something to remember the hard work I had to do get a new gig when it was extremely unlikely that I would get a gig with the new group because the proposed hire was at the exact end of their busy season.

    Sorry for the pity story.

    • http://URL David S.

Don’t worry, “I would cherish this watch,” the Nassau isn’t a closed edition. There will be more Nassaus, perhaps in a date version. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Fabulous watch!!!! Fingers crossed!

  • http://URL pdubz

A very thorough and considered Nassau review. Thanks.

The Kingston is a respectful and superbly executed homage to the ‘Bond’ 6538 but I am beginning to feel that I like the Nassau more.

If Bill Yao ever proposes a ‘Live and Let Die’ watch homage, I’ll certainly be voting for the Submariner again over the Pulsar Bond is wearing at the start of the movie… (BOND WATCH FACT: When Bond looks at his Pulsar it reads “5:48”. When we get a close up of his new Rolex 4 minutes later, the time reads “5:52”. Big respect to Continuity and in particular to the Editor).

  • http://URL Roger Yang

Such a beautiful watch! I have been longing for an MKII for quite a while now. But with a new born baby it looks like this may be my only chance to get one (cue the violins)

If you guys do decide to choose the winner on meritoriousness, I hope you could consider my story…

On St. Patrick’s Day 2013 I stumbled upon a beautiful MKII LRRP for a better than awesome price. It was only when I took the watch home and started to research more info on the watch that I realized that it was a one of a kind, custom made LRRP; and it was stolen!!!

Long story short, I contacted Mr. Yao for confirmation and within a few days had the hot watch back in the hands of its rightful owner, Pete.

It felt good doing the right thing and it was nice to know that I was able to reunite Pete with his favorite watch in his collection…

But alas here I am… I had it but I let it go…
And violins play whenever I think of the MKII that I let slip away.
    (cue the emo sunset)

    Would love to win this!

  • http://URL Nate M.

I think a premium Submariner homage such as the MKII Nassau ($895) (or Raven Vintage $580) makes more sense as a watch purchase than the inexpensive Chinese replicas, affordable quasi-homages from large watch companies, and the Rolex Sub itself.

Thanks W&W for reviewing relevant watches.

  • http://URL Ken

The workmanship on Mk II’s in general is excellent and Bill’s got the details down pat. This Nassau is no different and is very well put together. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

  • http://URL Sean_F

I like the red “0” marker on the bezel – adds just a drop of color without being colorful – much like a red second-hand on a black-faced chronograph does. I also like the (primarily) brushed finish. Great name: Nassau! It evokes the tropics, blue ocean, James Bond and, of course, the homage to the Submariner. Did I mention how great it’d look on my wrist? Appreciate the opportunity just to win one! Thanks W&W.
