Todd Snyder and Timex Team Up Again to Celebrate the Historic “Liquor Store”

Todd Snyder’s longstanding collaborative relationship with Timex continues with the just announced Todd Snyder + Timex Liquor Store Watch. The watch takes its name from the iconic location of one of Todd Snyder’s NYC stores. The Liquor Store building dates from the early 1800s, and for much of its life was set up as a barber shop in the front, with drinks available in the back. More recently, it was home to J. Crew, Snyder’s former employer. When the location became available last year, Snyder saw an opportunity to reclaim an important space with a new twist, and this new watch celebrates the Liquor Store’s new tenant.

The new Liquor Store Watch incorporates signature elements of both brands. The color scheme is dominated by an olive strap (a Snyder staple) and a beautiful ecru dial dial with a matte finish. These two tones complement each other exceptionally well – I’d be hesitant to experiment too much with other strap options as it seems like they nailed it on the first try. Gold hands and Arabic numerals give the watch a subtle vintage feel and lend the dial just the right amount of bling without being over-the-top.

The case shape has the same vintage lines as many of the watches in Timex’s expanding Marlin series, the vintage reissue that kicked off this period of creativity for the brand. Sized at 38mm and featuring alternating brushed and polished elements, this is the kind of simple and classic design that has exemplified the “everyday watch” for decades. This kind of adherence to simple, functional, time tested designs that Timex and Todd Snyder are all about, and is a large part of what makes this ongoing partnership such a natural fit.

The Liquor Store Watch is powered by a Japanese automatic movement, visible through an exhibition caseback. The crystal is acrylic with a hefty dome, another nice vintage inspired touch. The watch is available for pre-order right now, with an estimated shipping date of May 20. The Todd Snyder + Liquor Store Watch has a retail price of $249. Timex + Todd Snyder

It was lost in a move years ago, but he continues to hunt for a similar piece on eBay. Zach loves a wide variety of watches, but leans toward classic designs and proportions that have stood the test of time. He is currently obsessed with Grand Seiko.
