Around the Web: Bloomberg – Swatch Says Baselworld Pullout Is Permanent as Watch Fairs Wilt

Baselworld is right around the corner, and this year’s fair is sure to be closely watched by many, and not just for new watch releases. This is slated to be a dramatically smaller fair than in years past (in terms of exhibitors), and perhaps the most notable absence will be that of the Swatch Group brands. In a statement this morning to the press following the release of the group’s Annual Report, CEO Nick Hayek made it clear that the group has no plans to return, and is looking ahead to a landscape where these fairs play a less important role.
