The Ianos Dytis is a Grecian Take on the Dive Watch

Think of Greece, and images of classical architecture and beautiful seascapes like Mykonos come to mind. These are images that Ianos, named after the Roman god of past, present, and future, also wants to conjure with their new watches. As a manufacturer of Swiss timepieces that embody the essence of Greek history and tradition, Ianos is proud to unveil their latest model, the Dytis, or Greek for “Diver”. The Dytis comes on the heels of the well-received Mihanikos and is an iteration on the successful dive watch.

At first glance, the Dytis is a 41mm wide, 49mm long titanium dive watch that comes in two flavors: one with a blue dial and the other in white. The blue model shares the same hue as the Greek flag and is designed to evoke the stunning Aegean Sea. The more traditional color scheme of the two, it is paired with a matching blue single-pass rubber strap running through Ianos’ special strap channel for improved fit and ergonomics. The white configuration references the whitewashed architecture of the Greek islands and is as clean as it is modern. Thoughtful details abound dial-side: the four lines at twelve o’clock pay homage to the Greek flag, and the “Evil Eye” small seconds at the bottom of the dial is a clever way to integrate a famous Grecian symbol and icon into the watch’s function. Even the hour markers are inspired by ancient, hand-carved kampanelopetra diving stones.

The rest of the Dytis is classic dive watch excellence. Its screw-down crown guarantees 300m of water resistance, and its Grade 2 titanium bezel is marked by a luminescent index at twelve. Ianos is intentional about the tweaks and adjustments made to the watch as compared to the Mihanikos. The Dytis is narrower, thinner, and lighter thanks to its new titanium construction. Ianos’ aforementioned strap channel works to provide a virtual integrated fit with the rubber strap and minimizes the usual gaps from traditional strap designs. Inside the Dytis is the Sellita SW360-1 with running small seconds.

The Ianos Dytis is more than a simple improvement on a winning formula; it is a celebration of Grecian culture, beauty, and history. Whether you choose the deep, rich blue or spring for the refreshingly modern white dial, you’re getting a robust modern dive watch that is as capable as it is distinct. The Dytis will retail at 1850 CHF (excluding VAT), or $2,238 USD. The first 100 watches in each colorway are individually numbered.
