The Archimede Outdoor Protect Gets Colorful With Two New Dials

With its solid German build, clean looks, and palatable price tag, the Archimede Outdoor Protect is one heck of a watch. We gave it a glowing review when it was first released as the Outdoor, and we revisited the watch when Archimede upped the ante with the Outdoor Protect, which saw the case surface hardened for a more robust product.

Archimede is back with their latest iteration of the Outdoor Protect, which now comes with a FixoFlex expanding bracelet, a redesigned case, and two new dial colors.

ArchimedeOutdoorProtect-8Ickler-made and tough, the case of the Outdoor Protect has been ever-so-slightly refined with a new set of streamlined crown guards, resulting in a striking, almost-aerodynamic transition from the guards down to the rest of the case. At 38.5mm, the Outdoor Protect is nice and compact. The barrel design tempers the lug-to-lug height down to a manageable 43.25mm while retaining some visual heft, making the Outdoor Protect a very wearable watch on a wide range of wrists. The case features an even brushed finish, and the surface is hardened to 12,000 vickers. The result is a watch that’s more resistant to scratches.

ArchimedeOutdoorProtect-9The new FixoFlex bracelet is a surprisingly wonderful pairing with the Outdoor Protect. Despite its mid-century origins, the expanding band feels right at home on a modern sports watch of this caliber. The extra bit of give makes the band much more comfortable come summer when wrists tend to expand due to the warmer weather.

Archimede took a page out of the Seiko 5 playbook and grew the line to include five dial colors: black, white, red, and most recently hunter green and sand. The dial, austere in black and white, now feels more playful and warm, particularly the new hunter green and sand variants. These two colors also feature matching date wheels–always a welcome detail.

ArchimedeOutdoorProtect-10Rounding out the package is a Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1, a workhorse movement based on ETA’s 2824.

The Outdoor Protect is €780 (€655.46 without VAT) on oyster bracelet, €740 (€621.85 without VAT) on FixoFlex bracelet, €740 (€621.85 without VAT) on rubber, and €720 (€605.04 without VAT) on leather. All variants are now available for purchase at the Archimede web-store.
