eBay Finds: A Pair of Great Vintage Chronographs, a Cool Rodania in Original Condition, and Some Classic Seikos

eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at [email protected] for potential inclusion!

Seiko Bell-Matic Alarm Watch

The Seiko Bell-Matics are well known amongst collectors, however this model is one you don’t see very often. The uniquely styled case is a big ol’ cushion shaped chunk of steel, measuring 39mm wide. This example looks unpolished and has the original brushed finish. The bezel has a nice blue acrylic insert that looks really cool. The dial is a super dark blue, and is in great shape, with bold steel hands and a red seconds hand. The crown is at 3 o’clock, and the alarm button is recessed at 2 o’clock. The watch comes on the original broad link bracelet, which is always a bonus. The movement is clean and the seller states the watch runs and works properly.

Vintage Vantage Chronograph

Here we have a gorgeous vintage Vantage chronograph, with a stunning reverse panda style dial. The steel case has a slim bezel and slim, straight lugs, giving it that “poor man’s Carrera” look. The black dial with dual silver subdials is really sweet, and in great shape with nicely aged lume. Really a simple, classic chronograph that has a timeless design. The watch is powered by the workhorse Valjoux 7730, which is clean and recently serviced per the seller. Can’t go wrong with a classic chronograph like this one!

Seiko Lord Marvel

Next up is a nice vintage Seiko Lord Marvel with a brilliant blue dial and faceted Hardlex crystal. The 36mm steel case looks unpolished and has nice sharp edges. It shows a little wear, but some patina on a steel case is a good thing if you ask me! The dial is a wild iridescent blue, with big bold applied steel markers and the obligatory day/date window at 3 o’clock and broad steel hands. The kicker is the multi-faceted Hardlex mineral crystal, which gives it quite a unique look. The bracelet is not original but looks good enough to do the job. No movement picture, but the seller states the watch runs well.

Vintage Rodania

Here is a great little piece, a vintage Rodania with a military-style dial. The steel case is unpolished and is likely in the 33-34mm wide range. The angled lugs are nice, with sharp chamfers. The white-ish dial is clean, with stylized lumed Arabic numerals and an outer minute track. The hands are diamond shaped and lume filled and in excellent condition, with a large sweep second hand. The crown looks original to me, with a little wear, which is to be expected from a WWII era watch. The manual wind movement is clean and runs well per the seller. Polish the acrylic crystal and you’ve got a niece!

Vintage Seiko 6309-7049

The Seiko 6309-7049 diver needs no introduction: it’s an iconic vintage dive watch. This example shows some honest wear, but looks to be all original which is the key with these. The black dial is the non-Suwa type, and looks correct. The case looks unpolished, still showing the original brushed finish. The elapsed time bezel insert is original, but does have some wear. The watch comes with the original strap per the seller. If you’re looking for an original 6309 and don’t mind a little wabi, check out this one.

Vintage Angelus Chronograph

Leaving you with a beauty to finish this week, a superb vintage Angelus chronograph. The 38mm steel case is unpolished, with sweet chamfers on the slim lugs. The case may be nice, but the dial is the hero here. The black dial with gilt printing is just beautiful, and in fantastic condition. There is no movement picture, but the seller states the watch is powered by a 17j manual wind Angelus caliber 215 movement. Seller also states that the watch is running, but the bottom pusher is not working, and as such will need service. So please keep this in mind if you decide to bid. Normally I try not to select watches that need servicing, but this one is too pretty to ignore.
