Time flies when you’re having fun. Hong-Kong based EONIQ has enjoyed 10 years of bespoke watchmaking for its clients all around the world and is introducing a new collection to mark the milestone. Just two years ago, EONIQ launched a “Made in Hong Kong movement” to showcase its commitment to HK-based watchmaking and craftsmanship. Now it rings in the next decade with the all-new Malbec series, a collection that represents a particular expertise that has set EONIQ apart in the watch world: custom dials.
The EONIQ Malbec Marks a Decade of Custom Watchmaking
The Malbec is EONIQ’s interpretation of a timeless, elegant watch, and it both look and feels the part. The watch’s case is fashioned from 316L steel and measures a tidy 38.5mm wide and 45.5mm long with 20mm lugs, dream dimensions for a vintage-styled watch. Modern tech like dependable Miyota 9039 calibers and sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coating allows wearers to sit back and enjoy the true star of the show: the dials. The Malbec features its own in-house Breguet font for its numerals, which are delicately applied by EONIQ’s famous pad-printing capabilities. Each dial is printed by an in-house watchmaker who operates the machine and ensures that the outcome is impeccable. In conjunction with the flame-blued steel hands and overall balanced dial layout, the Malbec is embodies the archetype of an elegant everyday watch.
It’s not only the design and manufacturing of the watch that is meticulously done; EONIQ offers its clients the opportunity to personalize their watches with their own fonts, colors, and special symbols – all pad printed to order. We would be remiss not to mention that each bespoke job requires anywhere from a couple to over five new custom cliche plates, each of which must be turned and pressed accordingly to apply the exact alignment and depth required depending on the design. More than that, the viscosity of the ink, as well as the heating and drying cycles for the dial, must be finely adjusted. The EONIQ team continues to partner with local artists and designers to offer an even wider array of options, particular around traditional Chinese characters and numerals.
Any watch brand that takes the time to individually assemble and design watches based on client request deserves a second look. EONIQ has made this its calling card, and it shows no signs of stopping in its teenage years. As more customization options and partnerships come into view, it would not be a surprise to see clients, both new and old, clamoring for more.
