Baselworld 2019: First Look at the Sinn Frankfurt Financial District Anniversary Collection

This year, Sinn celebrates the 20th anniversary of their Frankfurt Financial District line with three new watches, two of which are limited editions. The Frankfurt line is a series of watches meant to evoke classic watch designs, with old school complications. Frankfurt is Sinn’s home city, and the financial capital of Germany, and with that in mind these watches have always felt somewhat divorced from Sinn’s techy, purpose built tool watches that are loved by enthusiasts. These pieces are decidedly flashier, but they are still Sinns, and still maintain a great deal of the practical technology that makes the brand special.

The anniversary watches are led by the reference 6012, available in rose gold and steel, with moonphase and full calendar display. This reference makes use of Sinn’s new SZ06 movement, which features a pointer date for the calendar (a charmingly vintage inspired touch) and a 60 minute chronograph display. The rose gold version is limited to just 50 examples, but both versions include mother-of-pearl moonphase discs, providing an extra bit of formality, and a black sunburst dial.

In addition, Sinn is introducing another limited edition reference, the 6099 B, inspired by the reference 6000, part of the original line of Frankfurt watches. Like that classic piece, the 6099 B is a chronograph that allows for the discreet tracking of up to three time zones, thanks to a 12 hour rotating bezel and a rather unobtrusive 24 hour hand. The dial is an electroplated blue with a sunburst decoration, and the automatic winding rotor is fashioned with an engraving of the Frankfurt skyline (the 6012 includes this decoration as well). This reference is limited to 200 pieces.

Many of Sinn’s watches are lovingly over engineered to almost absurd degrees. While these watches don’t include every piece of proprietary Sinn technology available, there is more under the hood than meets the eye, which is exactly what we should all expect from Sinn in 2019.  The 6012 pieces both feature Sinn’s DIAPAL lubricant free escapement, designed to extend service intervals and maintain the movement’s rate for longer periods of time through the use materials that don’t cause friction. The 6099 B doesn’t include the DIAPAL technology, but does feature Sinn’s D3 system for the pushers and crown. All of the new watches in this series are anti-magnetic, and can be mounted on a Sinn 5 link bracelet or a leather strap (except for the gold 6012, which includes a strap only). Sinn

Zach is a native of New Hampshire, and he has been interested in watches since the age of 13, when he walked into Macy’s and bought a gaudy, quartz, two-tone Citizen chronograph with his hard earned Bar Mitzvah money. It was lost in a move years ago, but he continues to hunt for a similar piece on eBay. Zach loves a wide variety of watches, but leans toward classic designs and proportions that have stood the test of time. He is currently obsessed with Grand Seiko.
