Introducing the HSC G-LIDE, a G-Shock made in partnership with Herschel Supply Company

Herschel Supply Company has been around since 2009 and over the last decade has made a name for themselves in the accessories game by producing a range of bags, outerwear, wallets, pouches, and the like with an eye for the little details. Their aesthetic is rooted in timeless wardrobe staples that support an active and curious lifestyle. To be honest, if I had to pick a player in the lifestyle brand space to partner with G-Shock, I don’t know that Herschel would have come to mind. But here we have a really well-executed G-Shock that absolutely feels right at home in the Herschel catalog. Shows you what I know.

The HSC G-LIDE draws heavily on military style, with its drab green colorway and prominent “brace” around the traditional square case of the watch. This looks like something that was pulled off a Jeep Wrangler, or maybe it’s better to think of it as the Jeep Wrangler of watches. Either way, this watch exudes utility. I’m not the type of watch guy that adheres to strict dos and don’ts when it comes to pairing watches with the rest of your attire, but I don’t think it’s controversial to say this one just doesn’t seem right in an office setting. Unless your office is, perhaps, in the middle of the woods, or you just happen to be perpetually covered in mud. 

Once you’re past the unique look of the G-LIDE, you still have an incredibly functional watch with all the G-Shock features you want and expect. Based on the GLX5600 series engine, the G-LIDE comes equipped with the requisite timer, stopwatch, and a series of alarms, plus you also get moon data and a tide graph. Even if you don’t use the tide graph, it’s without a doubt one of the cooler looking G-Shock complications. But, with this watch, per the case-back inscribed with “You can surf later,” I think you’re expected to use it. 

G-Shock collecting continues to be one of the richest sub-cultures within the watch collecting community, with endless special editions targeting every possible micro-niche and an astounding array of colors and features built into the watches themselves. If you’re a fan of Herschel, or you just want a G-Shock with an incredibly cool retro tactical vibe, well, you’re in luck, as this G-Shock is tailor-made just for you.
