First Look at Two Limited Edition G-shocks in a Unique Laser Printed Camo Colorway

G-Shock has unveiled two new entries into their lineup that have a decidedly military and technical feel, and approach a camo aesthetic in a way that’s new for the brand, and, frankly, it’s one of the coolest executions of camo in a watch that I’ve come across. The GMWB5000TCM-1 and MTGB1000DCM-1 both feature metal cases with laser printed camo patterns to create G-Shocks in two classic shapes that have a high end, luxurious feel, and a highly modern and tactical design.

Both the GMWB5000TCM-1 (in the classic square G-Shock case shape) and the MTGB1000DCM-1 (in the more modern MT-G profile featuring an analog display and large circular case) are pure G-Shocks at their core, and feature the normal array of G-Shock features everyone expects from the brand. The MT-G version features full Bluetooth connectivity, G-Shock’s latest Tough Movement technology, and Two Way Time Synch, for automatic adjustment of the time based on reception of an atomic signal. The GMWB has essentially the same suite of features, but adds a titanium case and band for a lightweight but premium feel.

As tech forward as these modern G-Shocks are, the two examples here are really all about how they look and how they’re made. Plenty of watches before these have used some type of camouflage pattern to suggest a military feel or heritage, but very often that’s limited to laying a familiar print over the watch, making it essentially just another color option. What’s new here is the laser application of the pattern, giving it the appearance of real texture through the use of hundreds of small dots, forming the camo patterns. On metal (as opposed to resin, much more common in the G-Shock catalog) the effect is quite impressive, giving these watches a visual depth that’s pretty unique.

We’ve certainly commented here before on the huge variety available in the G-Shock world, which makes it one of the most vibrant collecting communities in all of watches. There’s massive range here: you can buy a perfectly suitable, tough as nails G-Shock on Amazon for less than $100 any day of the week, and you can also move well up the ladder, and pay thousands, potentially, for limited edition, specially created G-Shocks that serve very particular collector needs, and allow those collectors to express themselves in unique ways. These latest camo tinged G-Shocks are just the latest example of how the brand is leaning in to their various niches.
