Bravur’s Latest Limited Edition is a Clean Take on the Scandinavia

Bravur’s latest limited edition watch is not unlike the Geography GMT introduced last year, in that it’s highly limited, with each individual watch carrying unique traits right on the dial. Unlike the Geography, which had a gold tone case and featured classic, warm hues, the new Scandinavia limited editions are squarely in the realm of modern Scandinavian minimalism, with design inspired by architects and designers like Arne Jacobsen, Bruno Mathsson and Alvar Alto. Bravur has always taken inspiration from uniquely Scandinavian design and the landscapes and culture of Sweden, and this new series is no exception. The Scandinavia was conceived as a versatile, everyday watch. With a design based in minimalism, a watch like this has a tendency to take on the characteristics of its surroundings. The less ornamentation on a watch, the more it will jibe with whatever you’re wearing or doing. For the limited edition, that idea is taken a step further with dials featuring matte, desaturated colors, that change their character dramatically depending on how the light is hitting them at any given moment. 

Available in blue and green, the Scandinavia Limited Editions are loaded with small details, each representing a conscious decision on the part of Bravur that goes into creating a coherent and pleasing final product. Baton hour markers circle the dial, outside an interior minutes track that lend the watch a sector dial effect. The syringe hands are particularly well executed, and have been skeletonized. The blue dial variant features gold tone hands and hour markers, while the green dial incorporates brushed silver accents. Both are nice fits for their respective matte dials, adding just the right amount of luster to an otherwise sober and clean presentation. 

The limited nature of these watches is highlighted with an individual number right on the dial, essentially making each watch a unique piece. Adding further to the Scandinavia’s handmade and custom feel, each watch is engraved on the inside of the case with the signature of the watchmaker who tested and assembled the watch. This type of personal touch is extremely hard to find on watches at this price point, and is something that Bravur seems committed to doing on their limited edition models. 

Like the regular production version of the Scandinavia, the limited version is powered by a Sellita SW300-1, a reliable Swiss caliber that enables the Scandinavia to retain a thin profile. At 39mm in diameter, the Scandinavia is a great neutral size that should wear well for almost anyone. Bravur
