Earlier this week, Topo Designs and Leatherman announced a limited edition collaboration for their very own Skeletool Set. The ultralight multitool gets the Topo Design color treatment similar to what we’ve seen in their range of multicolored bags, packs and accessories. The Topo Designs X Leatherman Skeletool comes equipped with the patented 7-in-1 function that include a set of needlenose pliers, wire cutters, a 420HC combo knife and a few more useful tools for your day to day tasks. The collaborative piece also comes along with a fun looking carrying pouch that also features the recognizable aesthetic of Topo Designs. Unfortunately, the Topo Designs X Leatherman Skeletool Set is no longer available on both the Topo Designs and Leatherman site. It’s been seven long years since we’ve had the pleasure of catching a George Miller flick. You might know his last film as the wildly fantastic Mad Max: Fury Road that dominated the Academy Awards in 2016 (They took home six gold statues that night). Returning from his hiatus, Miller is back with his latest film Three Thousand Years Of Longing. The original screenplay written by Miller is a fantasy comedy-drama that depicts an encounter by a djinn (otherwise known as a genie) played by Idirs Elba and a scholar played by Tilda Swinton. As expected when a genie makes an appearance, Swinton is offered three wishes in exchange for the djinn’s freedom, however Swinton’s character is skeptical of it all, and their conversation takes an unexpected turn. From the looks of the trailer, the film is imaginative, whimsical and visually kaleidoscopic. Three Thousand Years Of Longing is set to hit theaters August 31st.
In the world of camera news, Leica and Panasonic recently announced a new partnership that would combine the strengths of both companies to develop new technologies and to find creative solutions. With the core competency of Leica being optical and imaging technology, and Panasonic’s being video and digital technology, this seems to be an exciting opportunity for both brands to innovate the way that images are created. Moving forward, using the “L” Leica and the “L” in Lumix (Flagship model for Panasonic) the collaboration between the two will be dubbed as L2 Technology. Chris Burkard has been omnipresent as of late. He’s the host of the Sony Alpha Universe series First Take, played guest on a couple of podcasts recently including The Chase Jarvis Live Show and the Seager Storytime podcast, as well as published his new adventure photo-story book entitled Wayward. Oh and by the way, he makes films too. Following the success of Under An Arctic Sky, Burkard has released the trailer for his new docudrama feature film called I Am Here. The story captures the journey of three adventure athletes as they become the first expedition team ever to travel from the northernmost point to the southernmost point of Iceland in the middle of Winter. Within the film, Burkard also shares the story of one of his expedition mates as he deals with addiction and the adversity he faces, both during the expedition and his personal battles within. Somewhat of a LEGO machine master and YouTube sensation, Akiyuki has continuously blown us away with his mind boggling builds. Akiyuki is also known for creating his own unusual design mechanisms, one of which draws inspiration from a mangle rack, which converts circular motion into rectilinear motion by moving a gear along the outside of a set of pins. This method allows Akiyuki to smoothly move shapes around a track, and thus simulating a clock display. Earlier this week, Akiyuki debuted another incredible clock build based on the mangle rack design displaying all the intricate gears and movements. The LEGO Mangle Rack Clock video breaks down how Akiyuki makes the hour, minute and second hand, as well as the operation of the whole thing. A 12-hour time lapse at the end of the video also displays just how accurate this clock actually is. Spoiler alert: you’ll be quite surprised and impressed.
Here’s a nice vintage Waltham with great looks that shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. While vintage chronographs, divers and watches complete with box and papers are all great, sometimes the corresponding prices can be prohibitive. Well, this one should end up being quite reasonable. It features a 34.5mm wide steel ‘C’ shaped case with a mix of brushed finish to the case/lugs and polished bezel. The best part is the beautifully symmetrical white dial with crosshairs and applied steel markers at 12, 3, 6 and 9. Add the lume filled dauphine hands and second hand with arrow tip…and you’ve got a winner! Nice clean 17j manual wind movement and signed crown to boot. This one will look great on your wrist and won’t hurt your wallet.
