Breitling Releases An E-Commerce Exclusive Superocean Automatic 42

For Breitling, producing bold and brash tool watches is what they do best. However when I think about Breitling, the first couple of things that come to mind are high powered chronographs and ani-digi displays that incorporate elements of aviation history, design and overall feel. That being said, it’s easy to overlook the fact that Breitling has translated that same durable design and rugged spirit into their range of dive watches including the Superocean, which has its own historical chops that go back to the height of dive watch innovation in the mid 1950s. The entire Superocean collection offers a wide variety of dial colors, case sizes and distinct designs packaged into a good looking everyday dive watch. Just recently, Breitling made a new addition to the Superocean line up with an E-commerce exclusive edition of the Superocean Automatic 42.

The Breitling Superocean 42 E-comm edition has everything that you would want in a capable diver which includes a stainless steel case, unidirectional bezel and a screwdown crown protected by a pair of crown guards. The Superocean 42 also comes equipped with an impressive 500 meters of water resistance. Now most of us won’t even come close to using all of that WR, but it does feel good to know that the watch will keep on ticking whether you’re on a dive excursion, doing laps in a pool or elbow deep in a sink full of water and dishes.

The Breitling Superocean 42 sports a highly legible dial which is a must in any legitimate diver. The oversized Arabic numerals at 12, 6 and 9 combined with the prominent trapezoidal hour markers make for an easy to read dial at a quick glance. Contrast is another feature of the Superocean 42 that adds to the legibility of the dial with its oversized red arrow seconds hand and the red rehaut displaying the minute/seconds track. The red rehaut seems to be the only trait that distinguishes this Superocean 42 as the E-comm edition from the rest of the Superocean 42s in their line up. An additional subtle change or two to the look of this particular Superocean 42 would have been welcomed to differentiate this watch as an E-comm exclusive, however in its current form, the use of color and bold markers separates this watch from any standard “black dial diver” and stands confidently on its own within the Superocean line.

The Breitling Superocean 42 E-comm edition is encased in steel with the top lugs brushed and the flanks of the case being polished. As the name suggests, the Superocean 42 measures 42mm wide and remains the sweet spot within the Superocean size range. The approachable case width combined with a 50.6mm lug to lug and 13.3mm thickness should make for a properly sized tool watch ready for any open water adventure or casual wear as an everyday watch.

The Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 is powered by the Breitling Caliber 17 movement and will be accompanied by a black logo rubber strap.
