eBay Finds: A Jumbo Sparkle Seamaster, Vintage Formal Wear, and a UFO

eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at [email protected] for potential inclusion!

Vintage Waltham Diver

This vintage Waltham is a solid, no frills diver that shouldn’t break the bank. The nearly 36mm wide steel case looks unpolished but does show some light honest wear. However the caseback writing is clear and the angles on the lugs are nice and sharp. The oversized crown seems original or at least period correct but isn’t signed. The black dial is super clean and has nice applied steel markers with lume and a simple date window at 3 o’clock. This one has a 17 jewel manual wind movement that isn’t pictured, but the seller states it currently runs well. This would make a solid addition to any vintage watch collection.

Vintage Deco Bulova

Next up is a stunning vintage 1953 Bulova dress watch with a fancy Art Deco style case complete with box and papers. Seller doesn’t state the size, but this will be a smaller watch, maybe 25-27mm wide would be my guess. Still, what it lacks in physical size, it makes up for with style. The yellow gold fill case is superb, with cool angled lines on the hooded lugs that give it a unique, asymmetrical look. The stretch bracelet looks original and compliments the case design perfectly. The silver dial with applied gold markers is excellent and looks fantastic. The 21 jewel manual wind movement looks clean and the seller states it runs, and is wound by the Bulova signed crown. Best of all this is full set, complete with inner and outer boxes and guarantee papers.

Seiko 6138 UFO Yachtsman

You like vintage chronographs? I’ve got a real gem for you here! This vintage 1970 Seiko 6138- 0019 Yachtsman is a beauty. Known by collectors as the UFO due to its large round case, this is an iconic Seiko. The UFO is a classic that is highly sought after by collectors because of its unique style and the fact that it is powered by the amazing 6138 movement. The 6138 is (in my opinion) Seikos best chronograph movement. It’s a column wheel chronograph that is both automatic and manual winding, and has true quickset day and date. Add to that the killer vertical panda dial and unique ‘piston’ style pushers and ‘fishbone’ bracelet and you have a winner. These are increasingly hard to find in good original condition, and this one looks unpolished and all original to my eyes. If you’ve been looking for one of these, this is as good as they get, and the seller even states the watch has been serviced.

Vintage Asymmetrical Bulova Accutron B D

Speaking of unique, this vintage 1971 Accutron Asymmetrical watch is truly a unique one. Accutrons are unusual enough as they are with the tuning fork movement, but this example with its asymmetric off-center steel case is wild. The integrated steel brick style bracelet just adds to the style and look. Seller states the watch runs well. The case and crystal show some light wear, but the case looks unpolished and the acrylic crystal can be easily polished to be nice and clear. The grayish/black dial looks nice with day and date at 3 o’clock and bold applied markers that match the bold hands. Really unusual piece that is sure to garner comments.

Vintage LeJour Chronograph

If the Seiko UFO is a one-of-a-kind chronograph, this LeJour is a more classically styled chronograph. The blue and white panda dial is a tried and true classic design, with some cool red accents on the 30 minute sub dial. The 36mm steel case has nice bombe style lugs and while it looks to have been lightly polished but not overly so. The blue dial has a mottled look that I just love, and is in perfect condition. The watch is powered by the ubiquitous workhorse Valjoux 7733 manual wind movement. Seller states it runs and works currently, so this gem is ready to wear and enjoy.

Vintage Omega Seamaster Jumbo Sparkle

Closing this week out with a brilliant vintage 1969 Omega Seamaster Chronometer. The jumbo 37mm steel case is chunky and in great shape, really a nice modern style and size. The case is unpolished, exhibiting the original brushed finish and really cool radial brushed finish on the bezel. The gray dial has a unique sparkly texture that is quite elegant. It has applied steel markers that match the hands. There is a day/date window at 3 o’clock. The Omega signed crown is correct and is partially recessed into the side of the case. The movement is a Chronometer grade automatic caliber 751 which is clean and runs well per the seller. Really nice vintage Omega Chronometer that should go for less than the Constellation Chronometers that has a stylish look.
