Earlier this year we told you about the newly relaunched Elka watch brand, a project helmed by watch industry veteran Hakim El Kadiri. With a crowdfunding round complete and watches in the hands of Elka customers, the brand has announced a small update to the vintage inspired D Series collection in the form of a trio of seasonally appropriate colors. The D Series has a clean look, and fans of the brand will surely be glad to have a few new color options to choose from.
Elka Returns with Three New Dials in their D Series Line
The rather autumnal color selections that Elka has created for this most recent release include black (an obvious choice – we wonder why it wasn’t part of the original run), olive green, and bordeaux. As with the watches introduced earlier this year, the dials all have sunbrushed finishing that is meant to play with the light, and rather minimal dial accents consisting of simple baton markers, the brand’s wordmark at 12:00, and a date alongside the 3:00 hour marker.
From the dial side, the D Series watches are rather simple and, frankly, rather reminiscent of plenty of other similar dial executions (the Junghans Max Bill series comes immediately to mind). But there’s a little more going on if you catch a glimpse of the watch in profile – it’s clear that a great deal of attention has gone into the design of the case. The lugs are short and curve sharply and rather dramatically downward, which on a 41mm case should allow for some versatility that you might not otherwise get at this size. The lugs are also twisted and have curves and angles that provide plenty of visual interest.
The movement is also worth highlighting, as Elka has decided to go with a caliber that’s a step or two up from basic off-the-shelf Sellita or ETA automatics. These watches are powered by the La Joux Perret G100, an automatic movement that boasts an impressive 68 power reserve. With a starting price of $1,925 on a strap ($1,969 on a bracelet) there’s quite a bit of value here if you happen to enjoy the D Series aesthetic.
