Introducing The GMT Bezel Collection From Farer

Farer brings their bold aesthetic to the new GMT Bezel collection, composed of three unique variations each representing differing takes on the GMT. The new watches offer a continuation of Farer’s recognizable style in the form of big colors and graphic dials, all with the added benefit of a 24 hour hand and bezel. Also becoming a Farer staple, well considered case proportions, and the GMT Bezel collection is no exception, bringing the same cushion shape we saw on the Chronograph Sport to life in a trim and approachable GMT. 

Based in England, Farer is placed at the home of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), serving as the base point for Universal Coordinated Time. In recognition of those surroundings, the three watches within the GMT Bezel collection bear the names of the three roads that surround Greenwich park in London. These are Crooms Hill (red), Charlton Way (blue), and Maze Hill (white). At the fourth side sits The Royal Naval College that backs on to the River Thames.

The Crooms

The Crooms GMT Bezel brings Arabic numerals to the deep red dial in the form of an oversized 3, 6, and 9. The numbers are rendered in the British developed typeface “Brown” – born from the iconic London Underground font. A bright blue 24 hour pointer hand brings a stark and stylish contrast to the radially finished red dial, while orange accents at the outset of each 5 minute marker offer a more subtle pop of color. The Aluminum bezel insert is entirely black, leaving all focus to remain on the dial. A small date window is color matched to the dial, and sits nestled into the “3” on the dial. The Crooms will be limited to 125 individually numbered examples produced.

The Charlton

The Charlton features a deep ocean blue dial to the GMT Bezel collection. Angled hour indexes with lume infil keep attention on the dial color and red 24 hour hand tracking against a bi-color bezel insert. The 24 click bidirectional bezel matches a dark blue top with a light blue bottom for day/night indication. The bezel brings a welcome and familiar GMT design element to the table while serving as complementary to the dial. The dial itself is split into quadrants with a color matched date complication sitting at 6 o’clock. The Charlton will be limited to 150 individually numbered examples produced.

The Maze

Finally, the Maze GMT Bezel boasts a white dial with a subtle grid pattern appearing at closer inspection. Hour markers are large circles and rectangles with light blue lume creating a subtle contrast with the dial. An orange 24 hour hand commands attention against the white and blue dial, while tracking the 24 hour passage against a bi-color aluminum that gives each hour its own segment. The top half of the bezel is black while the bottom remains bare aluminum. The Maze also gets a date window at 6 o’clock, again matched to the dial. The Maze will be limited to 175 numbered pieces.

Each watch within the GMT Bezel collection receives a Sellita SW330-1 top grade automatic movement with bespoke rotor featuring the Farer “A” emblem cutout visible through an exhibition caseback. The SW330-1 offers quick setting date and 24 hand adjustments, bringing a level of practicality to this travel focused complication. This is set within a cushion shaped case that measures 40.5mm in diameter, 11.75mm in thickness (including domed crystal), and just 44mm from lug to lug. Those wrist friendly dimensions represent Farer’s priority on creating watches that are usable everyday, with minimal fuss to get in the way of practical comfort. 

The case itself is radially brushed across its top surface, and horizontally brushed along its wall. A highly polished chamfer splits the two surfaces with what Farer calls a ‘light catcher’. The crown holds a bronze cap with the Farer logo, and screwed in, makes for a water resistance depth rating of 200m / 656ft.
