Zodiac has teamed up with Huckberry to create a new limited edition Super Sea Wolf that pays tribute to the Farallon Islands. In the process, they’ve created a truly unique dial that conveys the theme of the watch beautifully, capturing sunlight piercing the sea from below. The watch is limited to just 82 examples, and the entire run sold out shortly after its release over the weekend, appearing exclusively through Huckberry’s online shop, so get your watchrecon alerts ready now if this one speaks to you.
Introducing the Zodiac X Huckberry Super Sea Wolf “Farallon”
The “Farallon” Super Sea Wolf is named for the Farallon Islands, which sit off the northern California coast in the Pacific ocean, about 25 miles from San Francisco. The grouping of islands within the Gulf of the Farallons is largely uninhabitable, thanks to the unforgiving terrain, save for a research group located on the South Eastern Farallon Island. The islands attract a great deal of elephant seals, which draw a notable population of great white sharks to the area as well, earning the islands their “Devil’s Teeth” nickname.
The Farallon Islands are a national wildlife refuge, with a sizable population of flora and fauna joining the many shipwrecks that dot the seafloor in the area. This is where we find the inspiration for the dial of this Zodiac Super Sea Wolf, which is deep blue with beams of light emanating from the top of the dial at the 12 o’clock position. The effect is meant to evoke the view from under the water’s surface, looking up through the abyss to see rays of light breaking through.
Adding to the rather dramatic design we find yellow accents on the dial and bezel, used sparingly enough so as not to distract from the dial itself. The date window gets a thin yellow outline while the hollowed out minute hand is rendered entirely in yellow. C3 Super LumiNova pulls lume duty with neutral coloring.
The steel case measures 40mm in diameter, with the standard Super Sea Wolf 53 design we’re familiar with. The lugs are brushed on top with the case walls receiving the polishing, however, swapping the standard finishing we’ve seen on other models. Inside, Zodiac is using the STP 1-11, an automatic caliber with date at 3 o’clock, and 44 hours of reserve. Pricing remained the same as other Super Sea Wolf watches with this caliber, at $1,095.
