Odd-Hours From 47Zero Finds Order In Asymmetry

47ZERO is a relatively new French brand, born from creativity and resilience. Cormac Hanley, an Irishman who moved to France with his family in 2007, had a successful career in advertising and photography. However, misfortune struck when he suffered a stroke at the age of 47. He had to relearn everything, from speaking to walking, but his creativity remained unchanged. During his long convalescence, he discovered watchmaking, a creative outlet compatible with his new abilities.

Still young and with three teenagers in tow, he and his wife founded their watch brand in 2023. It was a new beginning, starting from ZERO. This new adventure served as a reminder of the importance of cherishing simple dinners with friends or moments with family, as these become invaluable. “LIFE>TIME” is their slogan, embodying the idea that it is up to us to decide whether to count down the years or continue chasing our dreams. The birth of 47ZERO is the result of a celebration of perseverance and creativity in the face of adversity.

One of their latest creations is the Odd-Hours, and its peculiar asymmetric dial design. However, when you shift your mindset from the expected norms, you will find that everything is perfectly placed despite being scattered around. Upon closer inspection, you will also notice tiny hand-polished dial screws affixing the dial to the baseplate. They physically represent the link between the mechanical and the aesthetic, watch designer and watchmaker. The Odd-Hours watch is available in 36mm and 39mm in case diameter sizes, each with sapphire crystal and exhibition style casebacks. Both are 11mm thick, have 20mm lug widths, and 6mm screw-down crowns.

The stainless steel cases are classically shaped, if not slightly generic, with brushed surfaces, polished bezels, and sides. However, they serve as expertly crafted canvases for art, such as the dial. The dials are the heart of their watches. Each one is hand-finished, so no two dials are precisely alike. The process involves CNC engraving, laser marking, and manual polishing. They are dedicated to ongoing innovation, using various materials and methods. They take pride in their limited production, and the human touch is evident in every piece.

The 47ZERO Odd-Hours is powered by the Swiss-made STP1-11 automatic movement, which operates at 4Hz, has 26 jewels, and offers a power reserve of 44 hours. Each watch is water-resistant up to 100 meters and is available in various dial colors, hues, and textures. It is paired with handcrafted calfskin leather straps with quick-release spring bars made by local partners in Annecy, France. Pricing for the 47Zero Odd-Hours begins at €1,040, before taxes. Check out their recent release, and their entire collection, at the 47ZERO website today. Nous vous souhaitons succès avec vos montres très spéciales.
