Back in 1960, NASA was in need of a highly accurate timing device. Fortunately, Accutron had just unveiled the very first electric watch at the World’s Watchmaking Fair in Basel, Switzerland. This market a monumental shift in the way technology wold beginning playin a new role in the realm of watchmaking—with Accutron right on the forefront of that wave. This resulted in Buzz Aldrin’s lunar placement of an Accutron timer in the Sea of Tranquility, which has forever solidified the brand’s incredible contribution to space exploration. This categorical sea change, led by their absolutely unique tuning fork technology, is now being echoed once more with the exciting innovation that is the electrostatic movement.
One of the highlights of 2024 for us was work closely with the team at Accutron to pull back the curtain on all the intricacies and technologies that go into how and why their one-of-a-kind electrostatic technology works. Our team was fortunate to be asked to concept, script, and produce an explainer video that hope helps shed some light on, what was previously, a bit of a mysterious movement.
Ever hear of a Wimshurst machine? Neither had we. But its this technology and principles, developed well over 100 years ago along with Accutron’s ingenuity, that power this conversation piece for your wrist. Accutron’s monumentous history continues to be written, and we were thrilled this year to be part of the ongoing history of the brand in helping tell the story behind this groundbreaking technology.
