[VIDEO] Recapping The Biggest Watch Fair in the World: 2024 Windup Watch Fair NYC

The week after the 2023 Windup Watch Fair, the team here at Worn & Wound sat down and evaluated what would become our final show at The Altman Building. Two things were clear. One, there were a lot more brands from around the world expressing interest in participating. And two, there were a lot more people at the Fair than we expected. It was obvious, we would need a new spot in 2024. Fortunately, we had a lead on a space right on 5th Ave—two floors and several rooms of wide open possibilities called Center415. It was a massive leap up in size, scale, and visibility, which all comes with some risk. But we learned it’s true, as they say: “If you build it, they will come.”

The NYC edition of the 2024 Windup Watch Fair was without a doubt, the biggest watch fair in the world. With well over 140 brands in attendance, more than 10,000 enthusiasts flocked to the Fair over the course of three days. We were pleasantly surprised to hear multiple moments of audible ‘oohs and aahs’ as folks made their way from hall to hall.

Guests were immediately introduced to our EDC Expo presented by NOMATIC, a collection of gear and accessory brands with products that perfectly complement our passion for watches. At the end of EDC Expo, guests (of age) were able to sample Scotch Whisky from the island of Islay from our pals at Bruichladdich Distillery.

Folks were then ushered into the first floor’s main hall, where they were welcomed by an always cheerful Christopher Ward team, backed by impressive floor-to-ceiling graphics showing off their ongoing prowess with mechanical movements. An additional 25 brands populated that hall with Shinola’s immersive retail lounge anchoring the first of two levels. It was Shinola’s first time as a Lead Sponsor at Windup and they made it abundantly clear that the enthusiast audience is a priority for them!

Before attendees made their way upstairs, they were welcome to pop into one of our several free panels with industry experts and snag a cocktail at the full Bruichladdich Bar. Once they’d weaved their way to the secondary level, guests were greeted by both the Brew x Birch Coffee lounge and the Oris booth where their brand new Oris Divers Date made its worldwide debut. Before entering the main hall on the second floor, where another 90+ brands awaited them, guests were taken through 50 years of Casio—an installation cataloging the brand’s iconic history, which added one of those audible wow moments to the experience.

Then, as guests entered the main hall upstairs to see what an additional 90+ brands from 16 different countries in a single room actually looks like, the final oohs and aahs could instantly be heard. To experience that many brands, with isles packed full of enthusiastic watch fans is something to behold.

Among those brands were our final two lead sponsors, Bulova overlooking 5th Ave and Fortis, whose spot essentially became our Emerald City at the end of our Yellow Brick Road-like journey. Dozens and dozens of brands dropped new products at Windup, making it a vital moment for the industry.

The team here at Worn & Wound has been envisioning this show for nearly a year now, and sometimes, you just have to hope that all the work you put into it pays off. But thanks to you, the enthusiast community, this show exceeded every expectation. It was, without a doubt, the biggest watch fair in the world, and felt that way at each and every turn. Most importantly, this was an undeniable signal to the watch industry at large that enthusiasts cannot and should not be ignored.
