The GTA 6 Hype is Getting Real

Has there ever been a video game more hotly anticipated than the upcoming GTA 6? The latest entry in the Grant Theft Auto franchise doesn’t have an official release date yet, but developer Rockstar Games has indicated a late 2025 launch date. Beyond that, however, those in the know have been exceedingly tight lipped, which, as argued in this editorial in Screen Rant, has only served to bolster interest. Only a single trailer for the game has been released, and we’re now over a year removed from it, which has given fans plenty of time to speculate and hypothesize about what’s to come. It’s been reported that analysts expect GTA 6 could gross over $3 billion in its first year, with $1 billion coming from pre-orders alone, which would make it, by just about any measure, one of the highest grossing entertainment projects ever, not just in the realm of gaming, but in movies, music, etc. It’s too early to say for sure, but it wouldn’t be surprising if GTA 6 winds up being the piece of pop culture that 2025 is most remembered for.

The Strange World of Absurdist Bumper Stickers

Bumper stickers used to be earnest: “This car climbed Mt. Washington,” “CO-EXIST,” and on and on. But over the lat few years, there’s been a trend in more ironic, hyper-niche bumper stickers making arcane references to popular culture, or just designed to be purely humorous. It’s part of a larger trend of everything being made for social media consumption – these bumper stickers are not just made to be seen on the road, they’re made to be photographed and posted on Instagram. The New York Times recently spoke with the couple behind Frog Mustard, an upstart bumper sticker brand with a large social media following that continues to grow in popularity as they produce niche bumper stickers that allow people to express their personality via their vehicle in interesting and new ways. It’s a brave new bumper sticker world.

The Arc Alarm Clock by Nanu

Nanu is a San Francisco based brand making products designed to make time feel more tangible by eliminating screens and embracing a tactile experience. We’re pretty impressed with the design of their first two products, a reimagined version of the classic alarm clock they call the Arc, and a handheld device called the Nudge Counter, which tracks progress toward milestones and goals with a satisfying click. We think the clock is particularly cool – its alarm is mechanical and there are no speakers. Rather, it uses a chime bar, a percussive instrument tuned to wake you gently with a sound that gradually intensifies. More information on Nanu and their products can be found here.

Honda and Nissan to Merge

As reported in The Drive and elsewhere last week, it appears that the anticipated merger between automakers Honda and Nissan will move forward, with the two giant companies officially joining forces sometime in 2026. The move has been anticipated by many over the last year – Honda and Nissan signed an agreement in March of last year to develop electric vehicles together. The merger would make the new company the third largest automobile manufacturer in the world, behind only Toyota and Volkswagen. Other large automakers are also likely to be impacted in ways that have not yet become clear, as Honda and Nissan both have MOU agreements with Mitsubishi, and the Renault Group currently owns roughly a third of Nissan.

The Odyssey, by Christopher Nolan

It’s official: after a great deal of speculation and quite possibly some intentional misdirection by those in the know, Christopher Nolan has announced that his next film will be an adaptation of Homer’s The Odyssey, the epic poem that most of probably remember, if somewhat vaguely, from their high school or college literature classes. Nolan has come to be thought of as a maker of great epics, and it simply doesn’t get more epic than the Odyssey. The cast for the film is shaping up nicely, with Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o all attached, although we don’t yet know exactly who will be playing who. Nolan’s last film, Oppenheimer, was of course an enormous box office hit and won many awards, including a Best Picture Oscar and Best Director for Nolan, so The Odyssey is sure to be one of the most closely watched projects in Hollywood as production gears up ahead of a summer 2026 release.
