Sometimes buying the watch and a handful of straps is not enough. We seek out other things that accompany our NWA (It’s the collector gene in us all). It could be a book about the brand’s history, a magazine with an article about the watch or a vintage ad. If you’re interested in the latter, look no further than @adpatina on Instagram who specializes in tracking down these vintage ads and frames them so that they’re ready to display from the moment you unpack it.
Watch ads aren’t the only thing you’ll find as he also has a handful of vintage Land Rover ads as well. Reading the tagline and looking at the photos on each LR ad, you can’t help but feel a bit adventurous. Nick Federowicz aka @adpatina had the chance to interview Allen Richardson, the man behind the iconic Land Rover ads and through their conversation, we get an inside look on what the actual process is to get the ads made, close calls in the field and what is Richardson’s shooting style. Federowicz was also able to acquire actual proofs from Richardson’s old projects, some of which are still available for purchase on the site. It has been a solid week for car news if you love to drive fast and if you’re a fan of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Cadillac will be making their return to Le Mans next year for the first time since 2002 with their Project GTP Hypercar that sports a unique and all-new 5.5-liter DOHC V-8. Porsche also announced that they will be returning to Le Mans in 2023 and released some teaser images showing off the rear body of the car and its distinctive light bar. Ferrari also gave us a sneak peek of their four-wheel-drive hybrid prototype that’s set to run next year which will also mark 50 years of Ferrari participating in the iconic race. If you’re currently reading this on the date of publication, the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is running as we speak.
Earlier this week, NASA announced that they are going to put a team of scientists together dedicated to studying Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), or more commonly known as UFOs. Apparently decades of countless UFO sightings, the US government admitting that they have evidence that UFOs exist or Giorgo Tsoukalos breaking down his ancient alien theory is not enough for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as they, “… want to collect more data.” We’re going to have to wait a bit for the results of the study, as NASA is set to start the study later this Fall and is projecting that it will take nine months to complete. In the meantime, let us know in the comments if you’ve seen a UFO or if you believe in extraterrestrial life forms. Who knows, maybe someone at NASA is an avid Worn & Wound reader and will add the info to their data collection.
ARRI has been a major player within the motion picture industry since 1917 and for the past decade has set the gold standard for digital cinematography with their ALEXA camera catalog. Recently the Munich based company announced a new addition to the ALEXA family with the ALEXA 35 which promises to take the camera system to a whole new level. A quick rundown of the new and upgraded features include 17 stops of dynamic range (2.5 more stops than the previous ALEXA iteration), High ISO up to EI 6400 and richer colors via their REVEAL color science. The high-tech cinema camera has already been seen on set being used by Director of Photography Robert Richardson (three-time Oscar winner) for the Ben Affleck directed drama about former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro. Needless to say, this is the camera that professionals use, and if you’re thinking about purchasing one, it will set you back a cool $77,940. The ALEXA 35 is set to release next month.
This week we have a really nice 1970’s Omega Seamaster Cosmic. These are so different from the classic 1950’s Seamasters, and it just screams 70’s! The 35mm ‘C’-shaped case wears larger than its 35mm with the long lugs. The case is unpolished and retains its original brushed finish and sharp edges, and it’s a one-piece style with the Hippocampus logo on the flat back. The cream colored dial looks great, with applied steel markers and a black outer minute track. Nice bold steel hands and…….no date to ruin the beautiful symmetry. As it’s a one piece case, the seller doesn’t have a picture of the manual wind movement, but states it’s a caliber 601 that is currently running well. Original signed oversized winding crown to boot.
