G-SHOCK Suits Up With New NASA Inspired 5600

NASA’s orange Advanced Crew Escape Suit, or ACES, or ‘pumpkin suit’ is a bit of an icon of the ‘90s, and according to Google, still a pretty popular halloween costume for space program enthusiasts young and old. It’s a design based on the high altitude pressure suits worn by test pilots in the U.S. Air Force, and has an undeniable of-the-era charm about it. For G-Shock’s 3rd official NASA inspired design, they’ve gone all in on this suit with a limited edition GMW 5600 series that features a case and strap rendered in the very same orange. 

If you ask me, G-Shocks watches are at their best when they’ve got a bit of dramatic color flair happening, and this LE certainly embraces that theme. It’s not quite blaze orange or bright orange, it’s simply a deep orange that conveys its inspiration with ease when paired with the NASA logo and name placed along the strap, and finally an American flag icon placed neatly in the keeper.

If you’re of a certain age, this watch will likely produce a rush of nostalgia for the last phases of the space shuttle program. The orange suits were first introduced in 1994, and were in use by the 4 astronauts on STS-135, which was the final flight of the space shuttle Atlantis, and effectively book-ended the American space shuttle program in July of 2011.
