A Photographer’s Favorite Watches From Watches & Wonders

Hello, it’s me, Kat Shoulders, your friendly neighborhood photographer. As the Media Production Manager here at Worn & Wound, I tend to be more behind the scenes, but I have a goal this year to be a little more active with the editorial team as much as I can. I was honored to get to join the team this year at Watches & Wonders and had a freaking blast at my first show. I’ll admit it was a bit overwhelming at first, but by the time I was boarding my flight back to the states I really did not want to come back home. Being in Geneva felt like I was in the center of the watch world. Where it was ok to flaunt and talk about your watches as much as you wanted to or walk up to someone and ask what watch they were wearing.

It was truly an experience that has put me on a bit of a high since I left and I find myself a bit more engaged in the watch release world again. It’s tough working in this industry sometimes – you get a bit jaded when it comes to new watches. Watches & Wonders really lifted my WIS spirits and it was lovely to get behind the camera to shoot many of the novelties at the show. I shot more watches than I can recall at Watches & Wonders but I had a few standouts that I’d like to give some special attention to. These are pieces that for some reason or another just really stood out to me and gave me all those warm fuzzy feelings inside.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Small Seconds

The new JLC Reverso Tribute Chrono was certainly a favorite among many this year but a standout for me was the burgundy Small Seconds model. The pink gold case and that deep red dial are just an amazing combo that I find myself really drooling over weeks after the show. While the Reverso is such a classic in terms of its history in watches, I can’t help but feel these are still so underrated.

The Grand Seiko Tentagraph

I’m a huge fan of the Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Collection. I love the aggressive cases and sharp edges seen throughout the line. The new Tentagraph unveiled at Watches and Wonders was no exception. Yeah, it’s a little beefy, but the titanium case and downward lugs make this Chrono wear incredibly well on the wrist. That Mt. Iwate patterned blue dial and those zaratsu finished indices just come together so well here. Something I don’t think I’d ever get tired of looking at.

The Hermes H08

Hermes unveiled four new colors of the H08 collection at Watches and Wonders and this was my very first time getting to put one on the wrist. I’ve got to say….I reaalllly liked it. Incredibly comfortable and sized just right, these are the ultimate fun watch. I’m not usually a fan of composite cases but the case and dial texture really compliment each other so well and add a lot of depth to this otherwise simple watch. If I had to go for a favorite color here, it would probably be yellow.

The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon

The new glass box Carrera’s really stole the show for TAG this year, but I felt like one of my faves from the bunch wasn’t talked about enough: the tourbillon. I’m a sucker for blue and orange colorways, and that along with the showcasing tourbillon on the dial just captured me completely. Sure, I wish it was a 39mm case, but it still wore very well on my 6.5 inch wrist and is the kind of watch you just can’t seem to look away from.
