Introducing the Boston & Stewill Tourer: a Value-Driven, Swiss-Made Watch Now on Kickstarter

We were first introduced to Boston & Stewill in the fall of 2015 when the then-new brand took to Kickstarter to launch their freshman watch, the racing-inspired Tourer II. At the time of that campaign, we mentioned that the Tourer II was Boston & Stewill’s second design (their first design–an automatic timepiece–was at the time out of scope for the young brand). Now that they have the Tourer II under their belt–funded and shipping out to customers–Boston & Stewill has turned their attention back to their first design, the mechanical Tourer.Boston & Stewill Tourer - 10As with the Tourer II, the Tourer mechanical carries with it many automotive-inspired design elements. Specifically called out is the seconds sub-dial, which pulls inspiration from a vintage Bugatti grill (where the Tourer II was the Bugatti speedometer). The dial shares some other elements with the brand’s first watch, among them the hour triangle markers and lack of hour numerals.

The dial indicates the minutes at intervals of five, except for three o’clock where you’ll find the date window. The only hour indicator is the “TWELVE” printed at the very top of the dial. A railroad minute track around the edge of the dial completes the markings. There will be two dial options: black (with white hands) and white (with blue hands).

Boston & Stewill have opted for a Swiss-made ETA 2895-2. The 2895-2 is a 27-jewel, automatic caliber with a frequency of 28,800 bph. Encasing the movement is a 316L stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter, with a height of 11.7 and 22mm lugs. The front crystal is sapphire and the display back is mineral.

The production models will feature engraved rotors.

The pledge levels for the Tourer Mechanical start at ~$396 USD (limited to 50 at that price) and ~$439 USD after that. The expected delivery date of the Tourer is July of 2017. Boston & Stewill are hoping to reach their $90,240 goal by Friday, February 17, 2017. You can view all the details, specs and stretch goals on the Tourer Kickstarter page.
