Chistopher Ward is returning to their popular C60 Sapphire collection with the help of the Blue Marine Foundation to release a limited edition for a properly good cause. The Foundation works to protect the world’s oceans and the life that depends on their ecosystems, and this year marks their 10th anniversary. To celebrate, they’ve teamed up with Christopher Ward to design a limited edition watch, the C60 Blue. The watch captures the spirit of their work in modern dive watch style and best of all, the profits go directly to the Blue Marine Foundation.
Christopher Ward Collaborates with Blue Marine Foundation On C60 Blue
The C60 Blue builds on the excellent C60 Sapphire, which we reviewed in full right here. A few big changes are worth noting however, and could signal more of what’s to come from the regular production model. The C60 Blue replaces the steel bezel found on the Sapphire with a scratch proof ceramic insert similar to what we see on the Trident Pro models. The navy bezel receives bright blue accents at the 12 o’clock triangle, and the minute index up to 16. The bezel matches the deep blue dial, which retains its Sapphire like transparency, but now features waves of solid blue meant to evoke the Foundation’s logo (itself a representation of waves).
The waves hold no pattern in their application so the effect produced is organic in nature, a fitting tribute to the Blue Marine Foundation and their work. You can still see the backplate of the movement along with the date wheel and other gears working away, meaning the character we loved in the Sapphire model is still present and accounted for. The waves bring a fluidity to the design that contrasts with the mechanical nature of the dial, and make for a truly unique execution that lives up the limited edition status of the watch.
The 40mm steel case houses a Selitta SW200 which allows for a sub 13mm case thickness and a total lug to lug distance of 47.4mm. These are welcome dimensions that should keep the C60 Blue in daily wear levels of comfort and wearability. The reasonable case thickness makes the 60mm depth rating all the more impressive. Comfort is aided by the available fabric strap with light blue accent running down its center, which was created with TIDE and is made from reclaimed ocean plastic.
The C60 Blue will be limited to 500 examples, with the profits of each sale going directly to the Blue Marine Foundation. Christopher Ward aims to donate £200,000 to their cause with the help of this watch. Pricing for the C60 Blue starts at $1,020. Learn more from Christopher Ward.
