eBay Finds: Rado Golden Horse, Wittnauer Super-Compressor, and More

When it comes to shopping for vintage watches on eBay, it can be a gold mine, but it can also be a minefield. Not too long ago, our very own Christoph McNeill (you all might know him as Instagram’s @VintageDiver) wrote a handy, common sense guide to buying vintage watches on eBay (check out Part 1 and Part 2). Today, we have another installment of eBay Finds, where Christoph will highlight some great vintage gems looking for a new home. Happy hunting!

Vintage Rado Golden Horse Automatic

The Rado Golden Horse is a great example of a watch from Rado’s golden era, if you’ll forgive the pun. It has a classically styled steel case with a wide bezel and beefy lugs. It appears to me to be largely all original, but for the acrylic crystal that looks to be aftermarket, which is extremely common for a watch of this age. The original crown is signed with Rado’s anchor logo.

The dial is what really makes this one stand out. It features a two-tone design and has bold steel markers that are reminiscent of vintage Omega Seamasters. The dial has a touch of patina.

The case back logo is one of the best ever. It’s a deeply engraved version of the Rado double seahorse. It takes up the entire case back, and it’s really quite stunning. Overall, I think  this is a great watch at the “buy it now” price.Click here to check it out.

Vintage Wittnauer Super Compressor 8007 Diver

This edition of “eBay Finds” brings another Super Compressor into the mix—this time it’s the wildly popular Wittnauer variant. The Wittnauer Super Compressor measures 36 millimeters and features thick, beveled lugs and fat, cross-hatched crowns signed with the Wittnauer “W” logo. The black dial has perfectly aged markers and hands. The acrylic crystal has been replaced (the original has a trapezoidal date magnifier), but this watch is commonly found with a replacement crystal so it’s not too big of a deal.

Most Super Compressors I come across on eBay are listed as a “buy it now,” but this nice example is a no reserve auction.

Vintage Omega Seamaster (with a rare dial)

Vintage Omega Seamasters are fantastic watches, and there is usually a plethora to choose from on eBay. Sadly, too many of them have awful redials or, generally speaking, are in sub-par condition. Not this one.

This circa 1962 Seamaster looks to be original and in excellent condition, with only a light touch of patina. The case seems to be unpolished, and it has the correct clover-leaf-style, Omega-signed crown. A nice touch is a personal engraving on the back dated to 1962. This one also has a rare dial with vertical “creases” that give it a segmented look. It can look quite odd for those who haven’t seen this model before, but Omega collectors know it well, and it is a very desirable variation.

Wyler Incaflex Dynawind

To my mind, Wyler is an underappreciated and undervalued brand. In their time, Wyler made some really cool watches, including several great divers.

The watch we have here, a Wyler Dynawind, is a little different. This one is more of a sporty dress watch with a handsome silver dial featuring stylized numerals at six, nine and 12. It looks like an honest, all-original example, and though the case has some wear it appears to be unpolished. The crown is signed and the watch comes with a nifty generic bracelet. This 35-millimeter piece will make a great addition to any budding vintage collection.
