Introducing the Bravur La Grande Boucle Chronograph

The Sweden based brand Bravur is returning to the Grand Tour collection with the new La Grand Boucle chronograph. We saw the La Corsa Rosa earlier this year, with pink accents meant to evoke the jerseys worn by the lead cyclists competing in the Giro d’Italia. With the La Grand Boucle, Bravur is honoring the Tour de France, which is currently in Stage 11 through Malaucène. This is the second of three eventual watches that will comprise the Grand Tour collection, and the Boucle contains three unique elements that associate it with the Tour de France.

The Tour de France is a famously grueling race across 28 ‘stages’ of France, usually taking around 3 weeks to complete. You’re likely familiar with the yellow jersey worn by the rider leading general classification, the maillot jaune is currently being worn by stage 10 leader, Tadej Pogačar. There are a few other significant jerseys, though, that signify success of a different type at the Tour, each of which is captured in the Boucle chronograph.

Yellow accents are found around the dial, including the seconds track and the timing seconds hand, but the deep green and polka dot pattern dominate the base of the dial. The polka dot pattern captures the maillot à pois rouges jersey worn by the king of the mountains, or the climber’s jersey. Nairo Quintana is wearing the polka dots in stage 11. The large dots are a darker shade of green and don’t immediately jump out at a glance, which is probably a good thing.

Finally, the green of the base dial signifies the maillot vert worn by the rider leading the points classification. Since ‘flat’ stage wins carry more points than the mountain stages, the green jersey is generally worn by ‘sprinters’ and is currently being rocked by Mark Cavendish.

Cycling enthusiasts will undoubtedly recognize and appreciate each of these elements, while there’s still plenty to enjoy even if you’re not following the Tour stage by stage. The watch is built in a 38.2mm steel case and contains an automatic chronograph movement from Sellita in the SW511. The La Grande Boucle is priced at $2,450 and is available for purchase now. The third and final Grand Tour watch will be revealed August 14th. Bravur.
