DWISS knows a thing or two about building solid watches. Even before designer Rafael Simoes Miranda established the company in 2011, he had designed myriad watches for other brands and was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award. It’s no surprise, then, that DWISS has gone on to quietly build its reputation as a maker of fine Swiss watches. This year, for its 14th year in business, it is introducing its latest and greatest watch to date: The Model A1. As the brand’s new flagship, the A1 is DWISS’ take on the integrated sports watch, and there’s a lot to like.
DWISS Celebrates 14 Years with the Flagship Model A1
The Model A1, on paper, is a 40mm 316L stainless steel watch with an integrated tapering three-link bracelet and butterfly clasp. It is only 45.5mm long and 10.8mm thick, making it a perfect everyday watch with Goldilocks dimensions. Its scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and screw-down crown help provide 100m of water resistance, so it’s a watch that is both sporty in looks and use. The Model A1’s case is octagonal from its flat sides, one of which features a unique ridge, and is beautifully chamfered along its edges for a strong industrial look. It comes in white, black, green, and blue dial configurations – there’s something for everyone here.
Zooming in on the dial, we admire the tapisserie dial pattern punctuated by chunky hour markers fashioned from special C1 X1 BL Super-LumiNova blocks, a material that is up to four times as bright as industry standard lume. Even the date window is luminous, which is a rather uncommon – but appreciated – touch of detail and utility. Inside the Model A1 is the Swiss-made G100 caliber by La Joux-Perret. This movement is decorated with Geneva stripes, perlage, and blued screws, all of which you can admire through the exhibition caseback. The G100 is rated to +/- 7 seconds a day and boasts an impressive 68 hours power reserve.
The Model A1 is a fitting birthday present from the brand to itself, and it’s sure to appeal to anyone looking for a design-forward sport watch for everyday wear. The DWISS A1 is limited to only 500 individually numbered pieces, but the very first serially produced watch is even more rare: a one-of-a-kind “Ghost” model featuring a full white dial, white hands, and white lume will be directly auctioned on the DWISS website, where you can register to bid. The standard models will retail for $1,600, and you can learn more about the new Model A1 and DWISS watches at DWISS.com.
