Seiko Teams Up with Rowing Blazers For a New Three Watch Collection

Rowing Blazers is an American lifestyle and clothing brand that is synonymous with rugby shirts, limited edition drops, and, of course, blazers. While they might not be a go-to resource for watch lovers, they are watch adjacent at the very least, and have long sold vintage watches through their website. For their first full fledged watch collaboration, they’ve worked with Seiko to create three new editions of the Seiko 5 Sports watch, a watch that was notable for an initial release back in 2019 that featured dozens of variants with an enormous aesthetic variety. If nothing else, these watches are a great canvas for collaborators to apply their own vision, and that’s exactly what Rowing Blazers has done here.

It’s tough to sum up the house style of Rowing Blazers, but it definitely captures traditional American and British style and filters it through an irreverent filter with heavy doses of contemporary streetwear thrown in. The watches seen here capture this nicely, with an imaginative use of color and bold design elements not commonly seen in wristwatches.

The first of the three new watches is the SRPG49, which features a chess board “Rally Bezel,” which Rowing Blazers tells us is a throwback to the Seiko archives. This watch (and the others) is available on a stainless steel bracelet, but also comes with a brightly colored strap to make it even more casual. In the case of the SRPG49, the fabric is a solid lime green, and is a great match for the black and white bezel.

Next up is the SRPG51, which uses a zig-zag motif on the bezel, and is paired with a bright rainbow nylon strap. The red pattern on the bezel is mirrored on the red and white second hand (another design flourish common to all three watches), and the watch definitely leaves the impression of a Rowing Blazers rugby shirt, applied to the wrist.

Last in the series is the SRPG53, which sports a bezel with large blocks of red, blue, yellow, and green. This watch also feels very connected to the clothing Rowing Blazers makes, with plenty of bold color. It has a definite beach ball vibe, which feels perfect given the current season. Unlike the other two watches, the fabric strap included here is basic black, which makes sense given the liberal use of color in the watch itself.

The Rowing Blazers wordmark is prominently displayed near 6:00 on each watch, and the caseback features an image of a skeleton, one of the Rowing Blazers “House Codes,” and a reminder of the fleeting nature of time. While the SRPG53 is considered a “Special Edition” and not limited in nature, the SRPG49 and SRPG51 are both limited to 500 examples each. As with other watches in the Seiko 5 Sports lineup, these watches are powered by 4R36 automatic movements and measure 42.5mm in diameter.

All three watches are available beginning today at Seiko’s website and rowingblazers.com and carry a suggested retail price of $495.

It was lost in a move years ago, but he continues to hunt for a similar piece on eBay. Zach loves a wide variety of watches, but leans toward classic designs and proportions that have stood the test of time. He is currently obsessed with Grand Seiko.
