Timex Teams with Todd Snyder on the Latest Q

Share this story:

Timex and Todd Snyder have quietly unveiled their latest collaboration, the Todd Snyder x Timex Q. This watch, in retrospect, seems inevitable. The Q, Timex’s retro inspired quartz sports watch, and the various Todd Snyder partnership watches over the last few years, have been runaway hits. It was only a matter of time before we saw a Todd Snyder version of the watch, and now that we’ve seen it, it feels like a pretty natural evolution of the Q line and the partnership between the two brands.

The core design principles of the original Q reissue is still very much present in the Todd Snyder version. We have a sharply angular 38mm case, a day/date display at 3:00, and a prominent “Quartz” signature on the dial. This series of watches, with their nostalgia inducing battery hatch on the caseback, is proudly and unabashedly quartz. Where the Todd Snyder version of the Q differs is, unsurprisingly, in the little details.

Where previous iterations of the Q were showcases for flamboyant 80s inspired colorways, the Todd Snyder version is muted by comparison. There are subtle pops of red on the cross-hair dial, but otherwise this watch is dominated by black and steel. The bracelet has been updated as well, shifting from the fine links of the original to larger brick style links that run in parallel. It still embodies an 80s inspired aesthetic, but feels a bit more like a tool watch.

Another holdover from the original Q is the appealing price. At $179, this watch delivers in the realm of interesting design. While it’s easy to fault the Q for using an inexpensive and somewhat disposable movement, that’s really not the point of these watches. The Q has always been more about capturing a very specific feeling through a rigorous adherence to 80s design, and this Todd Snyder variant certainly meets that standard.

Zach is a native of New Hampshire, and he has been interested in watches since the age of 13, when he walked into Macy’s and bought a gaudy, quartz, two-tone Citizen chronograph with his hard earned Bar Mitzvah money. It was lost in a move years ago, but he continues to hunt for a similar piece on eBay. Zach loves a wide variety of watches, but leans toward classic designs and proportions that have stood the test of time. He is currently obsessed with Grand Seiko.
