OMEGA SPEEDMASTER: TO THE MOON AND BACK

Image via Sotheby’s.

The 50th anniversary of the moon landing is fast approaching (it’s July 20th, by the way). To mark this important milestone, Sotheby’s is putting together a Speedmaster-themed auction that will take place in New York the day before. There will be 50 lots — many of them vintage Speedies — but there will also be a handful of moon landing-related ephemera. If you’re in New York, then you can preview the auction at Sotheby’s from July 13-18, and the auction begins at 2pm on the 19th.

Brooklyn’s Coney Island.

It’s a New York tradition, as is the hot dog itself, and though hot dogs are straight up Americana today, the origin story of the humble hot dog begins at the beach in South Brooklyn by way of Germany.
