New York City’s Trash Can of the Future

If you spend any amount of time in New York, you’re almost certainly acquainted with the city’s iconic green trash cans, almost always overflowing with garbage. They’re both everywhere and never there when you need one, and they’re so durable in the imagination that they have a way of blending into their surroundings. They’re just part of the landscape. Well, after many years and many attempts at establishing a replacement for the old-school wire mesh design, the city is finally rolling out their next-gen trash can. The new litter baskets are designed with heavy bases (to prevent tipping), hinged lids, and removable lightweight inner baskets designed to make it easy for sanitation workers to remove. The New York Times has an unexpectedly fascinating piece this week on the new trash cans, how they came to be, and why some will miss that classic green mesh.

The New iPhone is Here

Unless you’ve been completely cut off from the internet for the last few weeks (unlikely if you’re currently reading this post) you’re probably well aware that the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro have finally made their debut. The iPhone users here at Worn & Wound have been debating whether or not it’s time to upgrade since the new phones were announced, and, as always with these things, the reviews tend to help in our decision making. This one from The Verge, on the top of the line iPhone 15 Pro Max, is just one of the many thorough examinations of the new device we’ve been poring over. What do you think? Time to upgrade? Or does your old iPhone still have some gas in the tank?

Dream Scenario, the Latest from Nicolas Cage, Gets a Trailer

You’ve got to hand it to Nicolas Cage: the guy can pick a project. Or maybe he’s just offered the most insane, oddball scripts, in a type of self-fulfilling cycle of weirdness that his career seems to be locked into. Either way, we’re here for it. Seeing his name in the credits seems to guarantee that a movie will at least be interesting, and Dream Scenario, his latest, is no exception. The premise: Cage plays a mild mannered college and mostly anonymous college professor whose life takes a turn when millions of people begin seeing him in their dreams. The trailer is, as you’d expect, kind of bananas, and we can’t wait to see it when the movie hits theaters in November. Check out the trailer right here.

Nikon’s New Full Frame Retro Zf Camera

Nikon has unveiled their new Zf camera, with a full frame sensor and a retro design that will conjure classic Nikons of the past, particularly the classic F-301. The design has a ton of retro charm, and the specs should please photographers interested in a compact, high performance body that’s made with street photography in mind. It sets a new standard for vibration reduction in a Z series camera (equivalent to eight stops) and has multiple new picture modes, including monochrome, and flat/deep tone monochrome capabilities. Timex ReWound Launches

New from Timex this week, we have news not of a watch, but of a first-of-its-kind recycling program that they’ve dubbed Timex ReWound. The premise is remarkably simple. If you have a watch you’re not wearing (from any brand) you can request a prepaid shipping label from Timex ReWound to send it in for evaluation. If the watch is in good working condition, it will be made available for sale on the Timex ReWound website so that it can find a new home. If the watch isn’t functioning or can’t be saved for any reason, the raw materials and components will be recycled and used to produce new watches. Either way, sending a watch in gets you a 20% discount code from Timex, and the selection of watches available for sale on the new ReWound platform is already bringing tons of nostalgia, with plenty of great options for well under $100. This strikes us as a great way to introduce someone to the hobby with a relatively inexpensive, potentially iconic watch from the past, produced by one of the great American watch brands. Check out the Timex ReWound website right here for more information.
