Springsteen Comes to the Big Screen

From The Bear, to the Boss. News broke this week that Jeremy Allen White, who has shot to stardom for his role as the chef Carmie in The Bear, is in talks to play Bruce Springsteen in a film about the making of Nebraska, his stripped down, acoustic album released in 1982. Various movie projects covering Springsteen’s life and career have been floated for years, but this time a star being attached to the project along with a director (Scott Cooper) has Hollywood buzzing that this one could take off. The Kinds of Kindness Trailer

OK, this is how you cut a trailer. Hot on the heels of Poor Things, filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone are back later this year with a follow up: Kinds of Kindness. What’s it about? We have no idea, but the stylish trailer set to “Sweet Dreams” and featuring glimpses of each member of the all star cast (including Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley, also featured in Poor Things) is evocative enough to have us pretty excited to see what Lanthimos has cooked up. Trailers too often give things away these days, so it’s exciting when an early teaser comes along for a highly anticipated movie that leaves us with more questions than answers.

Ricoh Announces New Cameras in the Popular GR Line

Ricoh announced two new cameras in their incredibly popular GR lineup this week. The GR series of point and shoot cameras have become an enthusiast favorite for their affordable price point, fantastic imaging, great build quality, and pocketable footprint. The new GR III HDF and GR IIIx HDF offer a newly developed Highlight Diffusion Filter designed to diffuse highlights for a softer light that should result in photographs with, Ricoh puts it, even more depth and emotion.

Carrie Turns 50

Stephen King’s Carrie, his first novel, turns 50 years old this year. The novel is perhaps even more relevant today than it was when it was first released for the way it deals with themes of isolation and gender, and it’s been the subject of a major critical reevaluation as its hit the half century mark. Margaret Atwood wrote this piece on the novel for the New York Times recently, which does a great job of identifying why the novel has endured all these years.

Dune: Awakening is Coming

Can’t get enough Dune? If you’ve seen the new movie at least twice, listened our podcast, started or caught up on the novels, and are still craving that spice, you’ll be glad to know that the Dune: Awakening game appears to be coming soon (although no release date is currently available). In the new survival MMO from Funcom, you play a prisoner who crash lands on Arrakis in a transport ship, and is forced to survive in the desert planet’s harsh elements. According to this story from the Verge, hydration plays a key role, and your character’s search for water is a constant theme, and you may occasionally have to resort to drinking the blood of dead animals. Hey, Arrakis is tough. The accumulation of spice, too, is expected to be part of the game, as is evasion of sandworms. The trailer looks great, and has us excited to don a virtual stillsuit.
