Before Tudor had the Black Bay, and before they had announced their returned to US markets, they had the Heritage Chronograph. When Tudor made their return to the US in 2013, they did so on the strength of their Heritage Collection, which consisted of a single watch in 3 colorways at the time. Of course, in the following years, the Black Bay was introduced and the brand has since cemented their presence with quality showings at each subsequent Baselworld (especially this year). But, it all started with the Heritage Chronograph in 2010. It was even the watch of choice for Ethan Hunt, as portrayed by Tom Cruise in the 2011 blockbuster Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
The Heritage Chronograph is based on a model first released in 1970, the Oysterdate ref. 7031/0. The two share more than a passing resemblance, and could easily be mistaken for the same watch at a glance. Thankfully, the original is quite handsome. Featuring a grey dial with black geometric registers and “home plate” shaped hour markers. The oyster case with screw down pushers add a touch of 6263 Daytona to the mix. The Heritage Chronograph captures all of these details with the same amount of charm.
