The last time we checked in on Kristin Harila, a budding mountaineer, rising star in the alpine world and Bremont ambassador, she had completed Phase 1 of the Bremont 14 Peaks Challenge. Despite reaching 12 summits of the 14 with Cho Oyu and Shishapangma standing in her way of completing the challenge, logistical issues preventing her from entering China and a faltering relationship with her sherpa team led to the eventual end of the challenge bid.
Since then, Kristin Harila has embarked on a follow-up attempt with an entirely new sherpa in Seven Summit Treks led by Tenjin Sherpa. Leading the new bid off with the two mountains that left Harila short the year before, they had summited 12 peaks coming into this past week.. ., this time alongside the 8K expedition team led by Lama Sherpa. Leading with whatever mountains. This week, Kristin Harila, Lama Sherpa and team summited Broad Peak and K2 breaking the record for the fastest time to summit all 14 peaks which is 3 months and 1 day. The previous record was held by Nims Purja, who completed the same task in 6 months. The previous record before that was an astonishing 8 years.
With the advent of new technology, lighter gear, and following the two-for-one (twofer) approach, we’re seeing incredible feats achieved in the Himalayas. It seems that it’ll only be a matter of time until someone else is gunning for the record (maybe Nims, again?) But until then, Harila remains as the record holder and we’re sure she’s standing on top of the world.
