Via Peak Design x Nomad

Peak Design is no stranger to our weekly WSG column. You’d be hard pressed to find another camera bag and accessory brand that can offer a product that’s better designed in terms of seamless functionality and aesthetics. It turns out that PD also offers an entire catalog of mobile accessories not limited to cases, mounts and an array of attachments to turn your phone into an all-in-one creative hub.

With their latest collaboration with Nomad, a brand known for making sleek mobile cases that don’t lack in the toughness department, Peak Design is offering an attractive option for someone in the market for an iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The entire frame is constructed out of a resilient and lightweight polycarbonate material fortified with TPU bumpers that give the entire case 15 feet of drop protection.

The main feature however is that the case features PD’s proprietary SlimLink system that allows the limited edition case to be compatible with the entire PD SlimLink ecosystem. That includes their various mounts such as the car vent mount and their bike mount, as well as their wide range of accessory attachments like the mobile tripod and creative kit. The Nomad x Peak Design phone case is also compatible with MagSafe charging systems. Once again, seamless functionality.

The Peak Design x Nomad iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max Limited Edition Rugged Case retails for $60 and are currently available for purchase directly through Peak Design and Nomad.

The Three-Body Book Trilogy Comes To Life On Netflix

Back in 2008, Liu Cixin’s first novel of his Three-Body trilogy entitled Remembrance of Earth’s Past was published and since then, the entire series has not looked back since. The three-part series begins as Earth has discovered an alien civilization in a nearby solar system that contains three unstable sun-like stars. In orbital mechanics, this is known as the three-body problem, hence the trilogy name.

This week we got the first glimpse of the sci-fi trilogy coming to life in a new teaser trailer by Netflix. It seems that the upcoming series has all the makings of being a blockbuster hit with the creators of Game of Thrones at the helm. The trailer above portrays the ever-changing plot across its fictional past, present and future with promising visual effects. Avid fans can only hope that they do the novels justice. Netflix’s Three-Body Problem is set to premiere in January 2024.

Hollywood Gets A Hold Of The 2021 GameStop Stock Debacle

In recent years, we’ve seen plenty of films and series dedicated to telling the story of captivating real-life events. Think Tetris, Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story and House of Gucci. It allows us to watch the story as if we were there, and when it’s done correctly with a bit of dramatization and a ton of acting, directing and producing talent, the result is a documentary-like viewing experience with flair.

The latest in this genre of film is Dumb Money, which portrays the 2021 GameStop stock drama between billionaire hedge funds and Reddit traders. Oscar nominated Paulo Dano plays Keith Gil who dumped his entire life savings into Gamestop and talked about it on social media. From there, it went viral and opened up a whole new world filled with extreme wealth … and problems. Dano is joined by a star-studded cast including Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Pete Davidson and more. Directing the film is Craig Gillespie who is most known for his works Lars and the Real Girl and I, Tonya. Dumb Money is slated to hit movie theaters this September.

Defining America With Culture

Via New York Times

How would you define America based on one piece or example of culture? Is it a piece of literature? Or is it a character on a hit Netflix series? In a recent article in the New York Times called Opinion: The Culture That Defines America, 17 columnists attempt this exercise and the results are so varied that it’s quite interesting to think about each of their suggestions. One columnist likened America to Ted Lasso, a show not just about an American coach going overseas to manage a soccer team with no prior experience, but a portrayal of different issues that have plagued and are still plaguing America, and how kindness, hope and belief prevails everytime. Another columnist compared America to the hip-hop song “Rapper’s Delight” by the Sugarhill Gang. Like we said, varied. Check out the whole New York Times article here.
