Worn & Wound’s 2019 Holiday Gift Guides: Zach Weiss’s Picks

The temps are dropping, the days are short, twinkling lights are everywhere, and the local radio station is playing “Jingle Bell Rock,” “White Christmas,” and literally nothing else. That’s right folks, the holidays are here. Since it’s the season of giving, and we know many of you are like us and need help figuring out that perfect gift, we thought it would be fun for Worn & Wound team members to share some holiday gift ideas. Over the coming days you’ll see suggestions in a range of price points and categories, with a few great selections from the Windup Watch Shop thrown in for good measure. Enjoy, and happy holidays!

The best gift is probably one that is easy to return. That aside, as someone who spends too much time looking at nice things on-line, I do often come across cool things worth considering for the giving season. The list below are things I like personally, but also think could be good gifts for the right people in your life.

Rastal Teku Stemmed Beer Glass

Now that beer is as refined as other capital-A adult beverages, one can enjoy it with a fine meal or civilized company without feeling, well, like they are just pounding beers. The Rastal TeKu was designed by Italian beer experts to amplify and elevate the experience of drinking beer. Featuring a long stem and angular features, the TeKu is elegant and functional. Whether it does elevate beer or not is almost irrelevant as whether one is drinking a tart Gose, a powerful IIPA, or simply a High-Life, they’ll look damn classy doing it. Great for the beer nerd in your circle of friends.

Gantri Orbit Table Light

Now that I’m at an age where people have settled into their apartments, own homes, and have grown beyond Ikea decor, quality and somewhat more expensive home goods are a worthy gift. Gantri is a very cool young company that works with independent designers to develop stylish, unique, and often sculptural lighting, using 3D printing and sustainable materials. The Orbit table light is the kind of accent piece that can give a space some distinctive flair, create conversation, and spotlight some wall art while we’re at it. It’s a great gift for that couple you forgot to buy a house warming gift for.

Best Made Co. Mallmann’s Wool Blanket

If you haven’t seen Francis Mallmann’s episode of Chef’s Table on Netflix (S1 E3), stop what you are doing, make yourself a tea or pour a glass of red, and take an hour for an aesthetic journey that is unlike many others. If you aren’t reconsidering moving to Patagonia by the end, I feel bad for you. Anyway, Best Made Co. teamed up with the eccentric chef to create a sort of biographic collection of goods, including this utterly charming camp blanket made of Pendelton Wool. Gray and brown, it features abstract rectangles that have an almost Rothko appeal to them. Perfect for those with fireplaces.

From the Windup Watch Shop: Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical

There are some watch-types that everyone should have in their collection whether they’re just starting out or are seasoned collectors. The field watch is one such type. That kind of watch you grab in the morning and wear, care free, all day. Simple, classic, understated, yet aesthetically pleasing, it won’t be one’s fanciest watch, but it might end up their favorite.

This isn’t news, but the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical is pretty much the closest thing to a perfect version of a field watch available today. The size is right, the price is right, and now with 80-hour movements, they have a functional advantage too. While one can’t go wrong with any of them, the newer earth-PVD model really stands out thanks to its unique coloring.
