eBay Finds: Gold Cases, Textured Dials, and Calculators

eBay Finds is back! This bi-monthly installment will feature a selection of watches currently listed on eBay that have caught the eye of editor Christoph McNeil (@vintagediver). If you come across any hidden gems on the ‘Bay drop us a note at [email protected] for potential inclusion!

Vintage Gold Longines

Here’s a little gem that has loads of style and bling despite its small size. The case is solid 14k yellow gold, but is only 31mm wide, so not really for those with big wrists. What it lacks in size it makes up with design and style. The bezel is two tiered, with the bottom tier having a crosshatched texture that matches the gold dial, and the upper tier has radial grooves at each hour that also serve as the hour markers. The lugs are thin and smooth for a nice contrast. The gold dial has crosshatched texture and looks to be in great shape the printed Longines logo and applied flying hourglass badge, with thin stick hands. Quite simple and elegant, while blingy at the same time. The crown is signed which is always nice to have. No movement pics but seller states it runs and keeps time. Really great looking gold dress watch for those that like a smaller watch.

Hamilton LED Calendar Watch

More gold, but this time gold plated and definitely a more ‘modern’ design than the Longines above! This vintage Hamilton LED watch has a classic future 1970’s look which is what I love about these vintage LED watches. Condition is fantastic, and the watch comes on the original bracelet. Seller states they are the original owner and it was stored without batteries. Also states that it works but the buttons are temperamental which I find common in old digital watches. If you want retro goodness, give this one a long look!

Vintage Wyler Slip On

Next up is this cool vintage Wyler with a brilliant blue dial. The stainless steel case is kind of cushion shaped, and is mint, may even be new-old-stock as it still has a sticker on the caseback, and the edges and finish on the case are nice and sharp. But the hero here is clearly the metallic blue dial with gray and white outer chapter ring. Simple lume filled stick hands and a date window at three complete the look. It comes on a stretch band that could actually be original but impossible to tell. Seller states the watch currently runs well, but no movement pics. A nice bonus is that this one comes with the original hang tag!

Vintage Casio Calculator Watch

Ok, I don’t know much (anything really) about this watch, but it is too cool looking to pass up. This vintage Casio LDF-40 calculator digital watch looks super old-school, but I think it may be a circa 2000’s watch. That said, the creamsicle orange and white color scheme is just too cool. This example looks nice and clean and seller states it works well. Great piece to have that retro digital feel but without the touchy vintage electronics worry.

NOS Jurgensen Day Date

Next up another full kit vintage watch for your bidding pleasure! This Jules Jurgensen yellow gold plated octagonal watch won’t be for everyone, but if the design strikes your fancy, you can’t beat the condition and full set. The octagonal case is really unusual with semi-scalloped sides and brushed/polished finish. The yellow gold dial has large block hour markers and a day/date window at three o’clock. The watch comes on the original strap which looks like it may be horween leather? Either way it’s cool to have the original signed strap and signed buckle. But the best part of course is the full set, inner and outer boxes, hang tag and warranty and instruction booklets.

Vintage Timex Automatic

Going to finish up with a great budget-conscious piece with this vintage Timex automatic. The chrome plated case is 34mm wide, and looks to be in good shape. The simple silver dial has a nice radial brushed finish and applied steel (chrome?) applied hour markers with numerals at 12 and 6. Slim stick hands keep the look clean and crisp. Seller states the watch runs well and has a new acrylic crystal installed. This one won’t win any complex design awards, but it has a classic look and won’t strain your wallet.
