New York Harbor Limited Edition

A few weeks ago, a group of Worn & Wound team members joined Oris for a volunteer event on Governor’s Island in New York City with the Billion Oyster Project. Together, we participated in just a small leg of the labor-intensive process the Billion Oyster Project undergoes every day as they work to repopulate the New York Harbor with oysters – a critical component of a healthy estuary ecosystem. As we learned, a robust oyster population provides many environmental benefits that are central to rebuilding the New York Harbor ecosystem, including filtering water of pollutants and providing reef habitats for hundreds of species. Our volunteer work included cleaning, sorting, and packing oyster shells that will later be used to foster oysters for repopulation in the New York Harbor.

The work of the Billion Oyster Project also supports the communities of New York City via a K-12 STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education curriculum and partnership with the Urban Assembly New York Harbor School. Through these education initiatives, the Billion Oyster Project is working to connect students from New York City with high-paying, sustainable careers. NYC students have access to programs in aquaculture, marine policy advocacy, marine biology research, and much more.

Through our time with Oris and the Billion Oyster Project, we gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for our local environment and the work being done to improve it. That’s what Oris’ cause-focused collaborations are all about and what makes the New York Harbor Limited Edition so exciting. While Oris is of course focused on making a beautiful watch that appeals to many, they’re even more focused on sharing the stories of their non-profit partners, like the Billion Oyster Project.

If you’re in Chicago and would like to learn more about Oris’ many Change for the Better causes, make sure to stop by their booth. They’ll have a full display showcasing their sustainability efforts for Oris fans and newcomers alike.

ProPilot X Calibre 400

In 2020, Oris released their impressive Calibre 400 movement, boasting high magnetic resistance, a five-day power reserve, 10-year warranty, and recommended service interval of just 10 years. Since then, Oris hasn’t been shy about putting this robust movement in several of their most popular lines, including the Aquis, Divers Sixty-Five, and Big Crown Pointer Date. Earlier this year, the Calibre 400 made its way into one of the most unique releases of the year, the ProPilot X Calibre 400.

As Oris describes it, the “ProPilot X Calibre 400 follows in a long line of Oris pilot’s watches going back to the early 1900s, but its power lies beyond its associations: it’s a mechanical joy machine.” That’s an apt description. Both inside and out, the ProPilot X Calibre 400 offers superior performance and unique design. The 39mm case and bracelet are full titanium, making regular wear a breeze, while the dials come in three varied colors, a muted gray, versatile blue, and bright salmon.

Big Crown X Cervo Volante

Sustainability and environmental conservation and core causes that Oris has worked hard to support. For over a decade, as part of their Change for the Better campaign, Oris has partnered with organizations around the world that are working to protect and rebuild the environment. Their first such collaboration of 2022 was released in January – the Big Crown X Cervo Volante. For this collaboration, Oris paired three unique dial color variants of the Big Crown Pointer Date with sustainable deer leather straps from Cervo Volante. The three dial colors included in this collection – gray, blue, and green – reflect the natural palette found in Switzerland’s mountainscapes, and each piece is presented in a Cervo Volante deer leather travel case.
