Objest, the London based watch brand and design house, has a new watch in the works to be funded through a Kickstarter campaign beginning next month. Like a lot of brands these days, Objest has an eye on the environment and the public good, but what differentiates Objest from their many of their peers is a focus specifically on animal rights. Their new watch, the Hach V, is vegan and PETA approved, and Objest will be donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of the Hach V to The World Land Trust, FRIEND and The Farm Animal Sanctuary. Let’s take a look at the new Hach V.
Introducing the Hach V, the New Watch from London’s Objest
The Hach V has a decidedly minimalist aesthetic, and the dial is marked by a series of parallel lines that run diagonally across it, meeting perfectly uniform hash marks around the minute track. Circular hour markers at the cardinal positions are applied and polished, with printed dots marking the minutes around the dial. The hour and minute hands are simple batons and have been given a matte finish, while the seconds hand is a thin stick with a noticeably pointed counterweight. White and black dial variants will be available.
The case has a matte black DLC coating and measures 42mm in diameter. It’s likely to wear smaller than its stated size given the lugless design. The Hach V shares the same pebble-like case qualities as previous Objest designs, and to me recalls some of the then future-focused case designs of the late 1960s and 70s. Today the case still has some of that futuristic, minimalist charm, and Objest has infused it with their own unique design language.
The Hach V is powered by an ETA 2824-2 movement, and is visible through the exhibition caseback. The rotor has been customized to match the color of the dial, and the parallel line motif has been carried over to the caseback and rotor itself, which is a nice bit of attention to detail on Objest’s part, and underlines their commitment to their own design. The strap, as you may have guessed from the outset, is made of vegan leather and derived from apple peels.
When the Hach V goes live on Kickstarter on February 2 it will be available for an introductory price of £325, which seems like a fair price for an ETA 2824 powered watch if you dig the design or are sympathetic to the animal welfare causes that Objest supports.
