Time On Track Ep. 6: Round 5 – Miami

Round 5 of the 2023 Formula 1 season centered on the spectacle that is the Miami GP, and while the race didn’t offer much in the way of drama, it did bring us a clearer view of who’s in charge this season. On this episode of Time On Track, Ricardo and Blake recount the race, the strange driver introduction component, and some of the watches we spotted along on the bountiful list of celebrities present for the occasion. The race itself saw all 20 drivers finish, and not so much as a yellow flag to interfere. It was the clean race we’d been waiting for, and there were plenty of passes happening in the tight mid-field as a result. At the top, things remained the same, with Verstappen re-asserting his dominance with a win from P9 over his teammate, Sergio Perez, who started the race on pole.

A strong showing from the Mercs, as well as from the Alpine team didn’t go unnoticed, and neither did a strange side step from the Ferraris. Fernando Alonso kept his continued to impress with yet another 3rd place finish, well clear of the Mercs, though still painfully shy of the Red Bulls.

Round 6 of the season is set to take place May 21st at Italy’s famous Imola track. Will the big upgrade package coming to the two Mercedes car turn their season around? We’re just hoping it means we see more battles with the Astons, while Mercedes looks to get a better understanding of their car altogether. We’ll be back the final week of May to discuss the race at Imola, and look ahead to the following race in Monaco!
