On October 26, 1940, a prototype NA-73 took to the skies from Inglewood, California and made history. Later called the XP-51 and P-51, the Mustang would play a vital role in the Second World War and eventually become an aviation icon for the ages. The Torgoen x Pacific Fighters Limited Edition Celebrates the XP-51 Mustang
The XP-51 Mustang Watch pays tribute to the aircraft’s now-iconic colors and design and takes things a step further by incorporating authentic elements from the plane itself: The dial, which features the Wright Field logo for the airfield where the Mustang proved its worth, is composed in part of material salvaged from an original P-51 flap skin preserved by Pacific Fighters. At six o’clock, a silhouette of the P-51 is labeled with the plane’s name. The seconds hand features the plane’s recognizable tail color accents, while the GMT hand is consistently colored with the yellow accents found elsewhere on the dial. Up top, the Star with Red Dot insignia provides a visual anchor and keeps the design cohesive.
Crafted with the same attention to detail and respect that the P-51 Mustang was, the Torgoen x Pacific Fighters LE is house in a 44mm stainless steel case with crown guards and a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. It is powered by a Swiss-made GMT movement fitting for a pilot’s watch, and its large luminous hands make it easy to tell the time in any environment. In keeping with the watch’s rugged, sporty character, it is paired with a customized black rubber strap. Flip it over, and the caseback reveals a special engraving for the XP-51 unique to this execution of the watch.
