TimeForArt Auction

Via TimeForArt

Art and design are one of the several pillars that support a great watch. And thanks to the Swiss Institute, the world of art and watches will once again intersect, as they host a watch auction that, for the first time, will solely support contemporary art and artists. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Swiss Institute’s efforts to support artists through their exhibitions, public programs, education and community engagement. We’ve noticed a rise in collaborations and releases surrounding high-profile auctions, of which there will be a few at TimeForArt including a Romain Gauthier x Anita Porchet, UNIMATIC x King Nerd x Massena LAB, and an Urwerk x Cooper Jacoby. The auction will take place in partnership with Phillips’ New York and Bacs & Russo, and will be located at the Phillips headquarters. The auction will be held on December 10th and 11th. For more information on TimeForArt and the full list of what’s going to auction, head on over to TimeForArt.

Happenings: Land Rover’s Adventure Weekend In New York’s Hudson Valley

Via Destination Defender

Destination Defender is a weekend that gathers those keen on the outdoors, as well as Land Rover owners and enthusiasts to celebrate the iconic history of the vehicle. The festival is set to take place on Oz Farm in the Hudson Valley and will be a melting pot of music, climbing, biking, cooking lessons, photography classes, local vendors and camping. But it’s important to note that the weekend is much more than the cool trucks, live music and long night fireside chats. Land Rover dedicates this weekend to honor non-profit organizations doing good things in Search and Rescue, Environmental Conservation, Veterans Outreach, Community Service, and Animal Welfare. On the evening of November 12th, Land Rover will select five individual non-profits that have gone above and beyond, and award them a Defender 130 and $25,000. If you’re interested in attending the festival next week, you can purchase a day pass, weekend pass, or if you’re in a mood to spend a night under the stars, a camping pass, right here.

Learning How To Build A Movement

Via Rotate Watches

Want to gain more appreciation for what actually goes into making a watch “tick’? Rotate Watches offers up a few kits that allow you to build a watch movement on your own. Their range of movement kits include a Seagull ST3600, Miyota 8215, and a Seiko NH35. Each movement is delivered fully assembled, properly lubricated, and comes with a beginner friendly guide. This is a fun way to tinker around with a movement and to understand how each part integrates with one another, without having to fiddle and mess around with a movement in one of your own watches. And when you don’t feel like playing watchmaker, the movement itself will look pretty rad on any desk, shelf or TV console.

EDC Dump: Random Gold Club Founder, Erik Anders Lang

We say it at the top, we love gear. So when a video series comes across our timeline that involves interesting personalities talking about what they carry on a daily basis, we tune in. Huckberry’s series is called EDC Dump, and the latest episode features Mr. Erik Anders Lang, the founder of Random Golf Club. If you’re not familiar with Lang, or RGC, basically he’s as gregarious as they come, and his love for the game of golf has evolved into a passion in creating a community around the sport. This episode covers a wide range of edc, from an Olympus All-Weather film camera and Caddis reading glasses, to a off the beaten path cologne and the “Rock Balboa” of sleep masks. It also seems that Lang is a watch guy and spends the last couple of minutes talking about his go-to travel watch. It’s a fun view. Press play and get ready to open up a new tab to search for some new gear.

Polynesian Adventure With Stanton Waterman

Stanton Waterman is a name that is synonymous with the likes of Jaques Cousteau and Jill Heinerth for underwater filmmaking and exploration. And if the name has you unsure, Waterman has five Emmys to back it up. In a recent recommendation made by a friend of Worn & Wound, and a recent featured guest on our ongoing sponsored series, Tool/Kit, Jason Heaton pointed us towards some vintage footage from National Geographic of Waterman during a Polynesian adventure with his family. You can easily feel that Waterman has an equal passion for underwater exploration and being a dedicated family man. It’s quite a sight to watch his three young children dive alongside Waterman and his wife, exploring the life and reefs below. The National Geographic footage  has everything you would want for an easy Saturday afternoon viewing: far-flung diving, experiencing new culture, curious exploration, and what seems to be a Doxa Sub 300 making an appearance every now and then on Waterman’s wrist.
