Windup Watch Fair Interviews: Christopher Ward

Christopher Ward is no stranger to fans of value-driven, independent watch brands. After all, they were one of the very first with a D2C, on-line only business model. One of the brands that came to the very first Windup Watch Fair and several others over the years, they made a triumphant return to Windup Watch Fair San Francisco this year after our multi-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Not ones to miss an opportunity, they didn’t just bring their fan favorites, they launched a whole new line, the C65 Aquitaine.

I sat down with co-founder and CEO Mike France to talk about the new line and its creation. He goes over everything from the inspirations that led to the design, to the complicated bezel inserts, to the color palette chosen. We also touch a bit on the logo and their branding strategy.

From there, I asked Mike a bit about the Colchester, their first forged carbon watch, which also features the unique telescoping crown found on the C63 Sealander Elite. We then go on to discuss what’s on the road ahead, and Mike teases some pretty epic stuff. From a new version of the C60 to something that’s coming at the end of year that will apparently blow us all away. It’s clearly going to be a good year for Christopher Ward, and by extension, us fans of the brand.
