Introducing the Limited Edition Laco Munchen Chrono

Laco has been refining their German pilot watch aesthetic for 80 years now, and it’s safe to say they’ve landed on a look that works. It may not be entirely unique to them, but more than any other brand producing German pilot watches, Laco has stuck to the original formula. The triangle marker at 12, the onion crown, and the oversized Arabic numerals placed around the dial are all hallmarks we’ve come to expect from the brand, even with complications thrown into the mix, that soul isn’t lost. This is particularly true with their latest limited edition, the München Chrono.

One complaint typically levied at chronographs is that, with the addition of so many sub dials and hands, the core practicality of telling the time is compromised. If you fall into that camp, you’ll appreciate the subtle application of the sub dials found on the München Chrono, which read as secondary tools to the running time indication. They’ve done this by printing the information within the dials in grey, with matching grey hands. Likewise, the day and date discs have been printed in grey, placed under the also-grey Laco branding. This effectively makes the watch appear as a time only three-hander at a glance, retaining a clear focus on practical legibility. 

The two pushers emanating from the case give up the game, and there is indeed more functionality available when needed. An automatic Valjoux 7750 beats away inside, bringing an hour and minute totalizer and a day/date complication to the dial. It also means a measurement of 14.7mm for the case thickness, within a 42.3mm case. That should make it as wearable as any watch outfitted with the 7750, and if you’ve owned one before this should feel right at home. The case itself has been dark sandblasted, creating a uniform matte texture throughout. 

The Laco München Chrono is a true limited edition watch, with a production run of just 200 units. There is a pre-purchase window ending on November 7th, with pricing at $2,400.
