Around the Web: Patek, Tudor, and Rolex to Postpone 2020 Releases

Today brings official word of the news that many have suspected for months would transpire: Patek Philippe, Rolex, and Tudor will be postponing new product announcements for 2020. We previously brought you the news that Patek had communicated to their dealer networks that no new products would be announced in the near term, and today Hodinkee has confirmed that all three brands will be holding off on new release announcements for the time being.

This is major news from three pillar brands in the watch industry. According to the Hodinkee story, none of the three brands is making a firm commitment to launch products at any particular time. There are at least two distinct possibilities for each brand: wait until the next Baselworld fair in 2021, or announce products on their own terms at an interval that works for them. Either solution would of course depend on how the Covid-19 pandemic plays out across the world, and both could have major trickle down impacts on the business of authorized dealers, manufacturing, and Baselworld itself.
