Another month down, and while it’s technically not yet June, we’re running next month’s eBay finds before this batch of excellent vintage timepieces are off to new homes. For this edition @vintagediver found four truly stunning watches ranging from a ’20s Bulova with a gorgeous movement to a NOS Croton from the ’50s that still has the sticker on the case-back. Enjoy!
Vintage Bulova, much like vintage Seiko, has something for everyone. Their 1920’s men’s wristwatches were, and still are, amazing. This circa 1927 Bulova square watch has Art Deco written all over. The 27mm wide white gold plated case has beautifully engraved details, with really cool yellow gold stripes on either side of the dial. Speaking of the dial, this one appears to have the original dial with radium pained block numbers and radium filled cathedral hands. The hinged case opens up to show the manual wind movement that still has the original celluloid dust cover. Seller states the watch is in good working condition. These don’t show up too often with the original dial and a case in this kind of condition.
Here’s a super cool mid-century mod-looking Wittnauer. The 34mm stainless steel case appears unpolished and has nice tapered lugs. The silver dial is the kicker here, with wild faceted hour markers and broad arrow hands. Nice sub-seconds dial at 6 and trapezoid date window at three. It even has the original signed crown and a clean-as-a-whistle manual wind movement. This one will look perfect on your wrist at the next post-quarantine cocktail party!
The Seiko Lord Marvel is one of the most underrated Seikos. The 5740c hi-beat movement was Seiko’s first manual wind hi-beat, which debuted in the Lord Marvel series. This example was made in 1974 (seller says 1976) and is an absolute classic, with a 35mm steel case and clean, simple silver/white dial with no date to disturb the symmetry. This one appears unpolished with nice sharp lines on the lugs, and the clear printing on the case-back.
Here’s a really sweet little timepiece. Vintage 1950’s Croton Equator Compensamatic, complete with boxes and papers. Now, it’s more of a mid or ‘boy’ size at 30.5mm, but for the smaller wristed amongst you, this is a nice one. The silver dial has radially aligned deco numbers with a simple sub-seconds dial at 6. It looks to be New Old Stock as there is still wax and original sticker on the back. The strap and buckle are likely original too. Complete set vintage watches are increasingly harder to find these days, so here’s an opportunity to snag a great piece for your collection.
