Introducing the Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition

In August of 2016, we ran a review of a watch by a brand from Britain that was largely unheard of at the time. A quartz GMT – the brand had yet to release a mechanical watch – it mixed mid-century style with playful use of color that stood out from the crowd at the time. That watch was the Barnato, and the brand was Farer. While they’ve come a long way since then, earning their status as a favorite amongst watch collectors and enthusiasts, many of the brand’s hallmarks were already set in place.

Today, we’re excited to announce the Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition, Farer’s first-ever collaboration with another brand.

When approaching this collaboration, we stopped to ask ourselves how does a watch transcend trends? When does it become timeless? Starting with Farer’s automatic 3-hand case design, the same basic design as from that first review, we set out to build a watch that would look good in any situation. Be discreet, yet have a personality. Handsome, approachable, and versatile, yet distinctive. A watch you’d never grow tired of.

The solution we found was restraint, of sorts. While both ourselves and Farer are prone to finding curious and bold combinations of colors and textures, for this collaboration, we sought refinement and subtlety. A palette of smokey gray and blue emerged. Classic, confident colors that seem drawn to each other. Each improves on the other. Tasteful textures add character and a proper level of finish.

The dial features a strong layout with radial symmetry. Circles of deep, slate gray serve as the backdrop for a bold index of numerals and batons made of molded lume, overprinted in dark, navy blue. Though the surface is one tone of gray, contrasting textures of circular and vertical graining create a dynamic two-tone effect. A thin white chapter ring with an index of navy and cyan borders the dial, creating a reprieve from the dark interior.

Syringe hour and minute hands in navy point to the time, while Farer’s signature long seconds hand with “A” tip creates a singular moment of enthusiasm by introducing a shock of cyan and a touch of red.

The element that ties the visual concept together is the gunmetal PVD case. A dark tone, it’s brighter than black, but darker than titanium. On the flowing lines of the 39.5mm x 45mm x 10.8mm steel case, it adds a subdued but brooding demeanor that compliments the slate dial. This coloration extends to Farer’s signature bronze-inlay crown. The darkened steel emphasizing the warm bronze cap. A domed sapphire crystal completes the package with a sensual touch.

The Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition comes mounted to a Navy leather strap with black stitch. A pebbled leather with a rich tonality and supple texture called Granolo, it has a subdued character that is befitting of the concept. Dark blue, like black and brown, is an easy color to pair with attire that doesn’t draw too much attention.

The Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition comes together as a sober but refined take on an everyday watch. Urban in its poise and attitude. Sartorial in its style. Backed by 50m of water resistance and equipped with strong lume, it is as fit for a day in the office as a night out on the town. It’s not only versatile in aesthetics but in function as well. Powering the Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition is the La Joux Perret G101 Swiss-Made automatic with 68 hours of power reserve.

The Farer x Worn & Wound Limited Edition is limited to 70 pieces, priced at $1,050. The watches be available for purchase on 6/28/23 at 2PM Eastern Time only through Windup Watch Shop, and will ship in early July.
